Position Summary 

The Senior Piping Engineer will provide technical leadership for piping engineering scope supporting a new nuclear fuel facility. This role will focus on high-temperature piping systems, piping specifications, routing, anchoring, supports, stress considerations, constructability, and integration with process equipment, hot cells, building systems, and facility utilities. 

The position requires a senior piping engineer capable of leading design reviews, resolving complex piping issues, coordinating with designers and engineers, and ensuring piping systems are safe, maintainable, operable, and aligned with nuclear, chemical, DOE, or high-hazard facility requirements. 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead piping engineering design activities for process piping, high-temperature piping, utility piping, specialty systems, and facility piping interfaces. 
  • Develop, review, and approve piping specifications, piping classes, line lists, tie-in requirements, routing concepts, support strategies, anchoring approaches, and technical calculations. 
  • Evaluate high-temperature piping behavior, expansion, flexibility, anchoring, guides, supports, equipment loads, routing constraints, and maintainability requirements. 
  • Review piping layouts, isometrics, support details, stress analysis inputs, material selections, valve requirements, penetration details, and vendor documentation. 
  • Coordinate piping design with process, mechanical, I&C, HVAC, electrical, civil/structural, safety basis, radiological controls, quality, construction, and operations teams. 
  • Support design reviews, constructability reviews, hazard reviews, field walkdowns, procurement activities, construction issue resolution, testing, startup, and commissioning. 
  • Provide technical direction to piping designers and engineers while maintaining configuration control, quality, and schedule alignment. 
  • Prepare engineering dispositions, technical evaluations, design change packages, and clear recommendations for project leadership. 

Requirements

Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. 
  • 10+ years of piping engineering experience supporting nuclear, DOE, chemical, high-temperature, high-hazard, process, or highly regulated industrial facilities. 
  • Strong experience with high-temperature piping, piping specifications, routing, anchoring, supports, piping materials, and piping design coordination. 
  • Knowledge of piping codes, pressure boundary requirements, stress considerations, thermal expansion, equipment interfaces, constructability, and configuration control. 
  • Ability to review P&IDs, piping layouts, isometrics, support drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, and field conditions. 
  • Strong technical leadership, communication, review, issue-resolution, and cross-discipline coordination skills. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required site access, training, and security clearances. 
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with hot cells, gloveboxes, GTS, nuclear fuel facilities, uranium processing, chemical processing, or radiological facility piping. 
  • Experience with ASME B31.3, ASME Section III interfaces, nuclear quality requirements, pipe stress analysis, or seismic design considerations. 
  • Professional Engineer license or advanced piping/stress analysis experience. 
  • Active DOE L or Q clearance. 

Education and Experience 

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
