Job Summary
This leading home equity platform is seeking its first Forward Deployed Engineer to establish a new capability focused on identifying, designing, and implementing automation solutions across complex product and operational workflows.
Sitting within DevOps but operating horizontally across the company, the role collaborates closely with Process Improvement teams and Product Owners. The position addresses workflows involving multiple systems, manual handoffs, and operational dependencies to determine how technology can optimize them. Rather than handling traditional ticket-driven engineering, this role takes ambiguous business problems, analyzes current processes, designs technical interventions, and owns implementation end-to-end.
Responsibilities
Partner with Process Improvement, Product, DevOps, IT, Security, and other business functions to identify and understand workflow and process problems.
Translate ambiguous business problems into concrete technical approaches.
Map existing workflows, including systems, stakeholders, handoffs, dependencies, and bottlenecks.
Identify opportunities for automation and determine which problems are appropriate for technical intervention.
Design, prototype, build, and productionize automation solutions.
Integrate solutions with existing internal systems, APIs, infrastructure, and product workflows as required.
Communicate technical tradeoffs and proposed solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Work independently from discovery through implementation rather than relying on predefined engineering tickets.
Participate in DevOps ceremonies while maintaining close collaboration with Process Improvement and Product stakeholders.
Demonstrate strong ownership and proactively identify opportunities rather than waiting for work to be assigned.
Establish patterns and best practices that could support a broader FDE capability over time.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
Previous hands-on experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer or in a genuinely equivalent forward-deployed role.
Strong software engineering background and ability to build production-quality solutions.
Proven experience implementing workflow/process automation solutions.
Experience working directly with business stakeholders to discover and define problems.
Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in ambiguous environments without detailed requirements.
Experience taking solutions from discovery/prototype through production.
Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to work across APIs, integrations, internal tools, and existing production systems.
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong ownership, autonomy, and leadership.
