The listing
SUMMARY
Accomplishes snow and ice engineering, polar logistics, and data collection. Provides technical support to the Government in conducting research and development projects for the Engineering Resources Branch (ERB).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provides technical input and support to ERB in developing design, performance, and evaluation specifications for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles for use on polar snow and ice runways.
· Develops comprehensive guidance and decision-support documents for U.S. Antarctic Program contract personnel responsible for operating and maintaining snow and ice runways and a long-duration balloon launch pad.
· Develops and/or updates UFC documents applicable to snow and ice runways and snow skiways.
· Evaluates simple and advanced in-situ runway strength measurement tools for application to snow and white ice runways and their use in establishing operating limits for various aircraft types.
· Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Relevant experience in snow and ice engineering, polar logistics, or related technical research.
· Experience with data collection, data analysis, laboratory or field work, and technical report preparation.
· Ability to apply technical judgment and resolve laboratory or field instrumentation and equipment issues.
• Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
· Ability to work independently and coordinate with researchers and technical personnel.
· Experience with polar or cold-region research and field operations.
· Experience developing technical guidance, specifications, or UFC documents.
WORK SCHEDULE
Part-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
TRAVEL
The expected travel time is less than 40%.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver’s license and be insurable on the company’s automobile insurance policy. Driving, with or without accommodation, may be required when traveling for training and/or short occasional amounts of local driving. The expected driving time is less than 40%.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed remotely, in laboratory settings, and at designated field locations. Field work may occur in cold and remote environments, including Antarctica, Greenland, and Alaska.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position consists of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting and carrying laboratory and field equipment as required. May require working outdoors in cold, snow, and ice conditions. Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay: 70.00-90.00/hr.
