About the Company
Our client is a fast-growing fencing company serving residential and commercial customers across New England (USA). With a strong focus on operational excellence, quality installations, and customer service, the company is looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to strengthen purchasing operations, optimize vendor relationships, and ensure materials are available when and where they are needed.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Procurement Manager to oversee purchasing, inventory coordination, vendor management, and material planning.
This person will be responsible for ensuring fencing materials, hardware, and supplies are purchased at competitive prices and available in alignment with the production schedule.
The ideal candidate has 3+ years of procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience, preferably within fencing, construction, building materials, landscaping, hardscaping, or a related industry. Direct fencing experience is highly valued; however, candidates with strong procurement backgrounds who can quickly learn fencing materials will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Management
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers of vinyl, wood, aluminum, chain-link fencing, hardware, and related materials.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment/delivery terms, and service levels.
- Identify alternative suppliers for critical materials and proactively mitigate potential stockouts, delays, or supply-chain risks.
- Continuously evaluate vendor performance, pricing, reliability, and quality.
Purchasing & Order Management
- Create and manage purchase orders based on production schedules, project pipelines, and backlog reports.
- Monitor material consumption and adjust purchasing and reorder levels accordingly.
- Coordinate closely with installation and scheduling teams to ensure materials arrive ahead of job start dates.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and follow up on outstanding orders and deliveries.
Inventory Control & Logistics
- Manage inventory levels across the yard, warehouse, and company trucks using SOS Inventory or similar inventory/ERP systems.
- Implement and maintain FIFO inventory practices.
- Identify and report aged, excess, or slow-moving inventory.
- Coordinate the receipt, inspection, staging, and verification of incoming materials.
- Resolve shortages, discrepancies, damaged materials, and delivery issues with suppliers.
Cost Management & Reporting
- Monitor material costs and proactively identify opportunities to reduce expenses without compromising quality.
- Collaborate with Sales and Estimating teams to ensure Bills of Materials (BOMs), material takeoffs, and pricing are accurate.
- Monitor procurement performance and provide weekly reporting on KPIs such as cost variances, supplier lead times, fill rates, and inventory availability.
- Support job costing and overall purchasing accuracy.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or a similar role.
- Strong negotiation and vendor-management skills.
- Experience managing purchasing, inventory, purchase orders, and supplier relationships.
- Familiarity with inventory or ERP systems such as SOS Inventory, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong follow-through and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the fencing industry or with a fencing contractor/franchise.
- Experience sourcing vinyl, wood, aluminum, chain-link, or related construction materials.
- Background in construction, building materials, landscaping, hardscaping, or construction supply.
- Familiarity with job costing and construction billing cycles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, material takeoffs, and BOMs.
- Experience working with installation or field operations teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional who understands construction materials, enjoys negotiating and building supplier relationships, and wants to take ownership of purchasing and inventory operations within a growing organization.
