About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Project Accountant to support the financial management of multiple property development and construction projects. This role is responsible for project accounting, financial reporting, accounts administration, compliance, and systems maintenance, while partnering with operational teams to ensure accurate financial outcomes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the end-to-end financial management of projects, supporting month-end reporting, statutory obligations, cash flow forecasting, and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting & ERP Administration
- Administer Jobpac Connect, including project setup, budgets, cost codes, GL structures, approval workflows, and user access.
- Maintain data integrity between Jobpac Connect and SunSystems.
- Provide systems support to site, project, and commercial teams.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process and code supplier and subcontractor invoices through to approval and payment.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable activities, including supplier reconciliations, invoicing, and debtor follow-up.
- Administer subcontractor payments, including progress claims, variations, back-charges, and retentions.
Banking & General Ledger
- Perform bank reconciliations and prepare payment runs.
- Prepare journals and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Financial Reporting & Project Analysis
- Complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities within reporting deadlines.
- Prepare project financial reports, including costs to date, commitments, forecast costs to complete, and budget variance analysis.
- Support project cash flow forecasting, financier reporting, and drawdown claims.
Compliance & Audit
- Prepare BAS, IAS, TPAR, and support other statutory reporting requirements.
- Prepare year-end workpapers, including WIP reconciliations across Jobpac Connect, SunSystems, and Estate Master.
- Assist with external audit and compliance requirements.
Finance Team Support
- Assist the Financial Controller and CFO with reporting, analysis, and broader finance initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and support ad hoc finance activities as required.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce, with CA or CPA qualification completed or in progress.
- 3–5 years’ accounting experience covering accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, journals, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Demonstrated experience completing month-end and year-end close.
- Experience using ERP systems, with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Working knowledge of Australian GST and BAS preparation.
- Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence liaising with non-finance colleagues on coding, approvals, and claim queries.
- Ability to take ownership of the ledger, follow issues through to resolution, and prepare accurate work that supports audit and financier requirements.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a high-volume environment and support a small finance team.
- Willingness to identify opportunities to simplify repetitive processes and assist with broader finance tasks as required.
- Experience in property development or construction is desirable.
- Experience with Jobpac Connect or a comparable construction ERP, and with SunSystems, is desirable.
- Experience with Estate Master is highly regarded.
- Familiarity with WIP, costs to complete, progress claims, and retentions is desirable.
