Position Summary

The Electrochemical Engineer will provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering support for industrial-scale electrochemical cell development, with emphasis on molten salt or other large-format electrochemical systems. This role will help fill a critical experience need in electrochemistry at scale, supporting design, testing, optimization, and integration of process equipment across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support electrochemical process concepts, cell designs, operating parameters, and scale-up strategies for industrial-sized electrochemical systems.
  • Provide technical input on molten salt electrochemistry, cell configuration, electrode materials, reaction environments, power requirements, thermal management, and process performance.
  • Support design integration with DC power systems, high-temperature vessels, furnaces, mechanical piping, instrumentation, controls, safety systems, and custom equipment fabrication.
  • Plan, evaluate, and document electrochemical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, data interpretation, and performance improvement activities.
  • Identify technical risks, scale-up challenges, process constraints, equipment interface issues, and opportunities to improve reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts, engineers, designers, fabricators, vendors, and project leadership to advance technical objectives.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Experience with molten salts or experience designing, developing, operating, or scaling industrial-sized electrochemical cells.
  • Strong electrochemical engineering knowledge, including cell design, electrochemical reactions, mass transport, current distribution, electrode behavior, process monitoring, and performance analysis.
  • Ability to translate electrochemical process requirements into practical engineering inputs for equipment design, power systems, controls, and operations.
  • Experience supporting laboratory-to-pilot or pilot-to-industrial scale-up, test planning, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary engineering integration.
  • Ability to work in a complex technical environment requiring safety focus, technical rigor, quality documentation, and cross-functional communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Senior-level experience with molten salt electrochemistry, electrorefining, electrowinning, electrodeposition, electroplating, metallurgy, or high-temperature electrochemical processes.
  • Experience supporting DOE, NNSA, nuclear, advanced energy, materials processing, chemical processing, or highly regulated research and development programs.
  • Advanced degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, advanced technical training, and directly relevant electrochemical systems experience may be considered.

Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
