The Role

The Associate Director of Journal Production will lead the production of JoVE’s Journal research content, overseeing approximately 3,600+ text productions and 1,000+ videos annually. This role will oversee the end-to-end Journal production process, including text proofreading, pre-production, filming, and video editing, with a strong focus on maintaining high scientific, editorial, and production quality standards. 

The role will report to the Director of Content Production.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Journal production operations across text proofreading, video pre-production, filming, and post-production, ensuring approximately 3,600 text articles and 1,000 videos are delivered annually.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous text and video quality-control standards, with a strong focus on scientific accuracy, consistency, presentation quality, and author satisfaction.
  • Set clear goals and KPIs for teams and individuals, and regularly review performance, productivity, quality, and turnaround times.
  • Continuously optimize production workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and scalability without compromising quality.
  • Drive adoption of AI, automation, and emerging production technologies where appropriate to improve productivity, consistency, and quality.
  • Partner closely with Editorial, Product, Technology, and other cross-functional teams to align Journal production priorities with broader business and product goals.
  • Monitor production quality and author feedback to identify recurring issues and opportunities to improve the Journal production experience.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree; a degree in a scientific, technical, media, or related field is preferred.
  • Significant experience in video and/or scientific content production, with strong familiarity with end-to-end production workflows.
  • 5+ years of management experience, including experience leading managers and multi-functional production teams.
  • Strong experience setting goals and KPIs and managing team performance.
  • Proven track record of improving production throughput, efficiency, and scalability while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Strong understanding of video production and quality control, including pre-production, filming, editing, and final delivery.
  • Experience implementing AI, automation, or workflow improvements in content production is preferred.
