The Role

The Director of Quality leads GTI’s quality assurance and quality control function across the company’s multi-state cultivation, manufacturing, and production network. The role owns the QA/QC policies, standard operating procedures, and quality management system that ensure the safety, purity, potency, consistency, and compliance of all GTI-branded cannabis products.

Operating in a highly regulated industry, the Director builds a culture of quality, food-safety, sanitation and compliance excellence – partnering across Cultivation, Extraction & Formulation, Production, Supply Chain, and Compliance to embed quality into everyday operations, proactively prevent defects, and drive continuous improvement. This role includes both direct and indirect people management and leadership responsibilities.

The position requires up to 50% travel across the US.

Responsibilities

Quality Systems & SOP Governance

  • Own GTI’s QA/QC policies, standard operating procedures, and quality management system across the multi-state network, driving consistency of standards from site to site.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve all requisite quality programs, including GMP, HACCP, sanitation, allergen management, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Define critical quality attributes, critical process controls, and in-process testing to proactively prevent quality defects.
  • Administer the electronic quality management system (QualityOne / Veeva Vault) as the system of record for documents, specifications, and quality records, with disciplined document control, change control, and version governance.

Quality Control & Product Safety

  • Direct and guide company-wide sanitation and quality-control practices that ensure the purity, consistency, potency, and efficacy of cannabis products.
  • Establish product and process specifications and finished-goods release criteria across flower, pre-roll, vape, concentrate, and edible / MIP product lines.
  • Own product scorecard support across all production departments, providing the quality metrics, conformance data, and defect trending that populate departmental product scorecards and inform operations performance reviews.
  • Oversee in-process and finished-goods inspection, hold-and-release, and disposition of nonconforming material.
  • Partner with analytical labs on potency, terpene, residual-solvent, pesticide, microbial, and heavy-metal testing; interpret COAs and drive corrective action on out-of-specification (OOS) results.

Nonconformance, CAPA & Complaint Management

  • Own the nonconformance record (NCR) and out-of-specification (OOS) process end to end across the network.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and develop, implement, and verify effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Support and monitor ongoing cannabis product complaint investigations through resolution.
  • Track and trend NCR, OOS, complaint, and CAPA data, translating quality signals into systemic process improvements.

Compliance & Regulatory

  • Ensure compliance with all GTI standard operating procedures and applicable municipal, state, and federal cannabis regulations across every market.
  • Stay current with changes to cannabis industry rules and regulations, and progressively update programs, processes, and SOPs to maintain compliance.
  • Serve as a quality point of contact for regulators and inspectors, leading audit readiness and inspection response.
  • Maintain traceability and recordkeeping in seed-to-sale systems (e.g., METRC) where they intersect quality.

Audit & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish and run internal audit and supplier / vendor qualification programs.
  • Pursue and maintain third-party certifications (SQF, ISO, GMP) where applicable to the business.
  • Apply LEAN and quality tools to reduce variability, scrap, and rework across pre-roll, flower packaging, edibles, and quality functions.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead a geographically dispersed team of site Quality Managers – monitoring performance, providing regular feedback and development, and helping managers succeed at the local level.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Cultivation, Extraction & Formulation, Production, Supply Chain, and Compliance to embed quality ownership into operations.
  • Provide quality performance updates, metrics, and risk escalations to operations and executive stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Microbiology, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; advanced degree strongly preferred – or equivalent experience and tenure required.
  • Quality experience: 10+ years of quality (QA/QC) operations experience in a highly regulated production organization in cannabis, food / beverage, pharmaceutical, or CPG.
  • Leadership: 7+ years of progressive leadership responsibility with a proven track record of building and developing QA/QC processes, systems, and teams, ideally across multiple sites.
  • Programs & methodology: Demonstrated command of GMP, HACCP, SPC, sanitation, and allergen-management programs, plus root-cause analysis and CAPA methodology.
  • Regulatory: Comfort interacting with regulators and inspectors and interpreting evolving state regulations in a compliant, defensible way.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct multi-state cannabis quality experience.
  • SQF, ISO, GMP, or PCQI certification.
  • Hands-on experience with an eQMS (QualityOne / Veeva Vault) and seed-to-sale systems (METRC).
  • Experience working in a quality role in a start-up or rapidly growing, dynamic business environment.
  • LEAN / Six Sigma or applied SPC / statistical-quality experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical fluency: Ability to interpret COAs and potency and contaminant data and translate results into process and specification changes.
  • Integrity: Unassailable integrity and ethics, and a track record of engaging teams and creating a collaborative QA/QC culture.

  • Must pass any and all required background checks
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
