The Role
The Review Editor evaluates manuscript submissions for scientific rigor and their potential for publication in JoVE Journal. As a key member of the Review team, this role upholds the scientific integrity of the Journal and directly supports our mission to advance research through visualization.
Responsibilities:
- Make final publication decisions by evaluating the scientific validity of submitted manuscripts and their suitability for visualizing the protocol
- Review new submissions to ensure that the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and our publication standards
- Apply prompt engineering techniques to validate reviewer reports for relevance, completeness, and alignment with journal standards, ensuring consistency while maintaining editorial quality
- Use custom AI tools, custom GPTs, and prompt-based workflows to perform pre-QC checks such as identifying formatting issues, missing sections, language clarity, and guideline adherence before peer review
- Accelerate article publication through close collaboration with the Production team to move accepted manuscripts efficiently through the production pipeline
- Ensure timely editorial workflows by coordinating with peer review and the editorial team to meet review and decision deadlines
Requirements
- A Masters / Ph.D. in life sciences, chemical sciences, or engineering
- 3+ years of experience with editorial review and submission-to-acceptance workflows
- Prior experience in scientific publishing or peer review is preferred
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
- Strong scientific and technical vocabulary
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality content
- Willingness to learn and leverage automation/AI-assisted tools for efficiency
- Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Genuine interest in communicating scientific methods through visual media
