The listing
Sago is seeking a pioneering Director/VP, Sales Data Licensing to build and scale a new revenue stream focused on the commercialization of consumer insights, audience intelligence, and proprietary research data assets. This role will be responsible for identifying and closing partnerships with clients seeking high-quality data for artificial intelligence training, machine learning applications, market intelligence, audience development, and advanced analytics initiatives. Note: Position level will be determined based on candidate skill level and prior professional success applicable to the role.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This is not a traditional research sales role. The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial builder who understands how data is valued, packaged, licensed, and sold. They will possess deep knowledge of the evolving AI ecosystem and have the ability to create a multimillion-dollar business opportunity from an emerging market segment. This individual will combine the instincts of a hunter, the commercial skills of a strategic seller, and the consultative expertise of a data industry professional.
Responsibilities
Revenue Generation & Business Development
- Partner with key functional leaders on Sago's go-to-market strategy for data monetization and licensing. Execute on that strategy owning multi-million dollar sales growth targets.
- Identify, prospect, and close new business opportunities targeting AI and LLM developers, Data marketplaces, Research firms, etc. leading the full sales cycle from prospecting through contract negotiation and close.
- Actively and independently build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities expanding Sago’s data commercialization footprint.
- Apply expertise in audience data, pricing models, licensing agreements, compliance requirements, and market trends becoming Sago’s internal expert on the data licensing sales cycle.
Data Commercialization & Market Expertise
- Develop Sago’s commercial models in partnership with internal stakeholders (Strategy, Product, Operations, IT, Legal) focusing on data licensing agreements, subscription services, API access models, and any custom data products necessary to advance strategic partnerships.
- Remain current on trends within the AI, data brokerage, audience intelligence, and research industries monitoring emerging buyers of licensed data to identify new market opportunities.
- Monitor the data competitive landscape creating an agile strategy that adjusts to changing client needs while still meeting necessary sales targets.
Requirements
- At least 7+ years of successful B2B sales experience in data, SaaS, market research, audience intelligence, analytics, or related fields.
- Experience selling data solutions to AI/LLM, technology, advertising, insights, or research organizations.
- Knowledge of privacy regulations and responsible data usage practices.
- Existing network of contacts in the data ecosystem and successful experience launching or scaling a new business line.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills used to exemplify Sago’s strong culture of being authentic, leading with passion, staying curious, and taking bold steps
