ROLE OVERVIEW
The client is looking for an experienced Senior Paralegal to join the team in a remote support capacity. This role is suited to a legally trained professional with a solid background in civil and criminal litigation who can take ownership of files and deliver high-quality legal support with minimal supervision. You will work across active matters spanning litigation, commercial, and property law, drafting documents, managing files in Smokeball, coordinating with courts and counsel, and keeping matters moving from instruction through to resolution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Litigation Support
- Prepare and manage civil litigation files end to end — draft pleadings, court documents, briefs, instructions to counsel, and procedural correspondence.
- Support criminal litigation matters including client communications, instructions preparation, and court documentation.
- Monitor deadlines, court dates, and compliance obligations across multiple active files; escalate risk items to the supervising solicitor promptly.
- Liaise professionally with clients, counsel, courts, and external parties on behalf of the firm.
- Document Drafting & Legal Research
- Draft, review, and finalise legal correspondence, contracts, agreements, and court documents to a high standard.
- Conduct legal research and prepare accurate, well-structured memoranda, case summaries, and background reports for solicitors.
- Assist with commercial and property law matters as required, including document preparation, file reviews, and research support.
- File & Practice Management
- Maintain and manage client files in Smokeball — ensure all records are complete, compliant, accurately recorded, and up to date.
- Manage workflow across multiple matters simultaneously, prioritising effectively and flagging issues before they become problems.
- Support the broader team with administrative and procedural tasks as required to keep matters progressing efficiently.
Requirements
MUST HAVES:
- Minimum 3–5 years of paralegal experience, with demonstrated exposure to civil litigation in an Australian legal environment
- Prior experience supporting criminal litigation matters is highly regarded
- Strong working knowledge of NSW court procedures, filing requirements, and procedural rules
- Proficiency in Smokeball practice management software — required
- Excellent written and spoken English — able to draft court-ready documents and communicate confidently with clients, counsel, and courts
- Strong attention to detail, sound legal judgment, and the ability to manage a varied caseload with a high degree of independence
- Prior experience working within an Australian legal environment is mandatory
- Exposure to additional practice areas beyond litigation (e.g. conveyancing, family law, wills and estates)
