Senior DevOps Architect - Cloud Infrastructure & CI/CD Engineering, Delivery Team
Location: Remote
We're looking for a Senior DevOps Architect to join our delivery team in a primarily client-facing, billable capacity, working directly with clients on their cloud infrastructure and CI/CD engagements. This role is primarily Azure-focused, with working exposure to AWS for clients running dual-cloud or AWS-native environments. The core of the job is designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines as code, using Terraform to provision and manage infrastructure inside client environments. You will work as an embedded or advisory member of client delivery teams, translating their requirements into production-grade infrastructure and pipeline solutions, and helping their internal engineers adopt these practices. Beyond individual client engagements, you will also work with senior engineering leadership to establish repeatable DevOps patterns that can be reused across clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for client application and infrastructure delivery, primarily in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, depending on the client's standard W
- Write and maintain Terraform modules to provision and manage client Azure infrastructure, with secondary support for AWS resources on cross-cloud engagements
- Manage infrastructure as code across multiple client environments, including state management, module versioning, and drift detection
- Automate build, test, and deployment workflows to reduce manual release steps and shorten client lead time to production
- Implement and advise on infrastructure security practices, including secrets management, least-privilege IAM and RBAC, and policy-as-code guardrails
- Monitor pipeline health and infrastructure reliability, and troubleshoot failures across build, deployment, and runtime layers
- Collaborate with client development teams to containerize applications and integrate deployment pipelines with Azure Kubernetes Service, AKS, or equivalent
- Support client developers across full-stack builds, troubleshooting issues that span frontend, backend, and infrastructure layers, not just the pipeline
- Document pipeline architecture, infrastructure patterns, and runbooks for client operational handoff
- Mentor client engineers and junior team members on DevOps practices and Terraform standards
- Present technical approaches, infrastructure decisions, and delivery progress to client stakeholders, and maintain strong day-to-day client relationships across the engagement
- Partner with senior engineering leadership to codify repeatable DevOps patterns, reference architectures, and Terraform modules that can be reused across client engagement
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in a DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering role
- Strong, hands-on Azure experience, including Azure DevOps, Resource Manager, networking, IAM, and core compute and storage services
- Working knowledge of AWS core services, such as EC2, IAM, VPC, and S3, sufficient to support or extend AWS infrastructure on cross-cloud work
- Demonstrated experience writing and maintaining Terraform for production infrastructure, including module design and remote state management
- Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines from scratch, not just configuring existing ones
- Demonstrated ability to design reusable infrastructure and pipeline patterns that hold up across multiple clients or environments, not just single-engagement solutions
- Solid scripting ability in at least one of Bash, Python, or PowerShell
- Experience with containerization and orchestration, using Docker and Kubernetes or AKS
- Working fluency across the full application stack, frontend, backend, and infrastructure, sufficient to support developers and troubleshoot issues beyond the pipeline itself
- Understanding of security fundamentals in infrastructure and pipelines, including secrets management and access control
- Hands-on use of Claude Code in day-to-day engineering work
- Comfortable working directly with client teams in an agile delivery environment, including presenting to client stakeholders and building trusted working relationships
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical client audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certification, such as AZ-400, AZ-104, or AZ-305
- AWS certification, Solutions Architect Associate or higher
- HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification
- Anthropic/Claude certification a plus, though not required
- Experience with policy-as-code tools, such as Sentinel, OPA, or Azure Policy
- Experience integrating security scanning into pipelines, including SAST, dependency scanning, and container scanning
- Prior consulting or client-facing delivery experience
What Success Looks Like in the First 6 Months
- Owns several client CI/CD pipelines end to end, including their Terraform-managed infrastructure
- Reduces manual steps or failure points in a client's existing deployment process
- Is a trusted DevOps resource within client delivery engagements, comfortable presenting to and building relationships with client stakeholders
- Has begun working with senior engineering leadership on at least one repeatable DevOps pattern or reference architecture for reuse across clients.
As part of the Alpha team, you will be rewarded with the following:
- Competitive salary with annual profit-sharing opportunity
- 401k matching
- 25 days of annual paid time off (accrued)
- Supplemented medical, dental and vision coverage
- Reimbursement for commuting, mobile phone, and home internet expenses
- North America team-wide training and retreats
- Sponsorship towards professional certifications / training supported with 5 days of paid training time
There are a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to - skill sets, experience and training, and licensure and certifications. A reasonable estimate of the base salary is $124,000 to $200,000, subject to change based on salary benchmarking. In addition to this salary, employees would be eligible for both variable and non-variable benefits.
