Role Purpose
The Structural and Systems Installation Design Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, and support of aircraft structural components and systems installation. The role supports new development programs and in‑service aircraft, ensuring designs meet airworthiness, manufacturability, and industry best‑practice requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Structural & Systems Installation Design
• Create 3D airframe definition from concept to production for primary and secondary structural components and related systems installation components
• Develop and maintain 2D drawings with integrated working instructions
• Design and integrate systems installation components within aircraft structures
• Ensure designs meet applicable airworthiness regulations and engineering best practices
• Provide continuous engineering support to manufacturing and in‑service activities
Integration & Supplier Coordination
• Participate in the design and control of major interfaces with internal teams and structural/system suppliers
• Monitor, support, and guide suppliers to ensure quality and timely delivery of engineering documentation
• Coordinate impact analysis and implementation of design changes
• Support and participate in certification activities
• Provide visibility to management on status, risks, and emerging issues
Composite & Advanced Design (Senior Profiles)
• Manage and modify metallic and/or composite aircraft structure digital mock‑ups using CATIA V5
• Ensure Fit, Form, Function, and Manufacturability requirements are met
• Investigate complex technical issues and define design solutions
• Review and approve technical documentation
• Identify design risks and weight reduction opportunities
• Act as a technical lead and support development of junior engineers
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• College or University degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of relevant structural design experience (integrator/senior profiles)
• Aerospace manufacturing industry experience (asset for junior, required for senior)
• Systems installation design experience is an asset
• Knowledge of airworthiness certification requirements is an asset
Tools & Skills
• Proficient in CATIA V5, ENOVIA, and Microsoft Office
• AutoCAD and composite design tools (e.g., FIBERSIM) are assets
• Strong communication skills, written and spoken
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
