ABOUT THE TEAM
The Integrated Workflows team exists to expand Mural's value by embedding it seamlessly into the essential business workflows our customers already live in. We connect Mural to the tools that teams rely on every day, from the systems of record where work gets tracked to the places conversations happen and the surfaces content moves through.
That is what integrations unlock, and it is the most interesting thing about this team. When Mural can reach the work happening everywhere else, a canvas stops being a snapshot of one meeting and becomes a live surface for how a team operates: real context pulled in, real decisions pushed back out, nobody retyping a status update or hunting for the current version. A workshop stops ending at the wall of sticky notes and starts ending in tracked, owned, moving work. That is when collaboration gets genuinely effective, and building toward it is the point of everything we do.
Underneath all of that, we build the integration platform: the shared frameworks, services, and patterns that let any team at Mural ship a connected experience without starting from scratch. Our mission: to make Mural a natural part of daily work. We measure success by how indispensable Mural becomes inside real customer workflows, not by the number of integrations we ship.
YOUR MISSION
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Integrated Workflows team, you'll own significant parts of how Mural connects to the outside world. You'll design and build integrations that are reliable, secure, and genuinely used, and you'll turn one-off connector work into integration platform capabilities the rest of the company can build on.
This role sits at the intersection of product and platform. You'll work directly against third-party APIs and SDKs with all the ambiguity that entails: shifting contracts, rate limits, auth models, partner review processes. At the same time you'll keep our own abstractions clean and our public API stable for the developers who depend on it.
Senior Engineers at Mural lead, design, and implement complex technical projects, contribute to team and company-wide processes and culture, and provide mentorship and support for early-career colleagues.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Build and evolve two-way sync with the systems of record where customer work lives (Jira, Linear, Asana, and others), so decisions made on the canvas become tracked work and stay in sync as that work changes
Design, build, and maintain integrations across the Microsoft ecosystem (Teams, Outlook, Office), video conferencing platforms, and third-party notification targets such as Slack and Teams
Build and evolve the integration platform: the shared frameworks, services, and patterns other Mural teams use to ship their own connected experiences
Own the content pathways in and out of Mural, including the import and image panels, third-party image APIs such as Unsplash, copy/paste to and from outside Mural, file upload handling, iFrame embedding, self-serve PDF to Mural conversion, and Mural exports and downloads
Partner across teams on shared boundaries and hold up your side of those contracts, including render for exports, the notification engine, and company-level migration
Maintain and support our public API for existing third-party developers, with the backwards-compatibility discipline a published interface demands
Lead projects end to end, from research, design, and POC through execution, release, and iteration
Build flexible and maintainable solutions while being accountable for quality, performance, reliability, and the security posture of everything crossing our system boundary
Use AI tools as part of your fundamental workflows
Design, plan, and implement automated testing and documentation strategies, including for the failure modes that only show up when someone else's API misbehaves
Elevate the team's skills and knowledge by participating in technical designs and talks, and by reviewing and helping improve your and your colleagues' code
Contribute to constantly improving the team's processes and best practices
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Fluency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and experience with technologies such as React, Node.js, or other modern frameworks
Hands-on experience integrating with third-party APIs and platforms: OAuth and token lifecycle management, webhooks, rate limiting and backoff, pagination, versioning, and graceful degradation when an upstream service fails
5+ years building and shipping large-scale production software as part of an agile engineering team
Strong track record of designing and delivering scalable, high-performance systems
An outcome-oriented and highly-experimental interest in AI-driven development practices
Proven experience planning technical projects and delivering new systems and features iteratively, with a focus on delivering value to customers quickly
Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to lead technical discussions and navigate trade-offs effectively
Experience working in high-growth, fast-paced environments or startups is a plus
Experience building against Microsoft Teams or Office add-in SDKs, or shipping through a partner marketplace or app review process
Experience designing and maintaining a public developer API
Experience with Python
Familiarity with secure file handling at scale, including permissions checks, malware scanning, and content validation on upload
Experience with content migration or format conversion between products, and the fidelity problems that come with it
Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
