Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. This role offers opportunities to work with one of our multiple product teams, including IoT & Hardware Integration, Frontend (Web), Frontend (Mobile), Backend Services, Mobile & AI, etc. While the overarching goal is to design and implement high-quality software solutions, each team has a unique focus that contributes to our unified platform and solutions. Overall, the Senior Software Engineer will play a key role in driving the success of our team by improving standards, mentoring team members, reworking existing code, and developing new features and functionality for our products and solutions.
Prefer a candidate in Phoenix, AZ to report to our Headquarters on a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities Across Teams:
- Led the design of vital components and features.
- Partner with product managers, designers, and QA engineers to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
- Write clean, maintainable code (Elixir, React, React Native) following best practices.
- Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and advocate for engineering standards.
- Optimize performance, refactor legacy systems, and ensure backward/forward compatibility.
Team-Specific Responsibilities:
- IoT & Hardware Integration: architect and develop full-stack solutions for access control systems (e.g., locks, intercoms, fobs), including backend APIs, IoT integrations, and real-time hardware interactions to enable seamless remote access management.
- Frontend, Web: design and optimize scalable React-based UI components for property staff/resident applications, refactor legacy codebases, and collaborate on design systems to unify platform functionality and user experience.
- Backend Services: Design foundational infrastructure using Elixir for shared features (auth, event processing). Develop REST/GraphQL APIs for internal and third-party tools. Optimize systems handling billions of IoT events.
- Mobile & AI: Streamline maintenance workflows via React Native apps and AI tools. Develop NLP-powered search (e.g., “turn off notifications”) and automate task triggers.
- Frontend, Mobile: Develop iOS/Android apps for maintenance/resident communication. Optimize offline functionality for low-connectivity environments.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
General Qualifications Across Teams:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (in lieu of degree, equivalent related work experience).
- 4-6 years of software development experience with all of the following or specific to the role: cloud message APIs and usage of push notifications + experience in Azure DevOps, git (and modern build pipelines like Webpack, Babel), CI/CD pipelines and agile development process methodology plus experience with JavaScript, AngularJS, TypeScript, Node.JS, HTML, CSS, C++, C#, Python, MySQL, jQuery, web services, RESTful API, and modern frameworks like React or React Native.
- 3 years of professional software development experience using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frameworks like React or React Native.
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous requests.
- Familiarity with version control tools like Git and modern build pipelines (Webpack, Babel).
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
Team-Specific Qualifications:
- Secure, scalable access solutions for physical properties via IoT devices (locks, intercoms, fobs). Build Elixir/Node.js APIs for device communication (BLE, PIN codes, key fobs). Partner with hardware teams to ensure seamless device onboarding and management. Implement credential management and audit logs for access control systems.
- Design and maintain foundational infrastructure for SmartRent’s ecosystem of products. Develop Elixir-based services for shared features (user auth, event processing). Design REST/GraphQL APIs for internal tools (e.g., Community Manager Web) and third-party integrations. Optimize systems handling billions of monthly IoT device events.
- Streamline maintenance workflows for property staff via mobile and AI tools. Rebuild native iOS apps in React Native for cross-platform support. Optimize offline functionality for field technicians. Develop NLP-powered search/navigation (e.g., “turn off notifications”). Reduce onboarding time and improve user retention. Automate task creation (e.g., move-out inspections) based on dynamic triggers.
- Refactor legacy interfaces for scalability and usability. Collaborate with Core Platform for API consistency. Build scheduling interfaces and real-time analytics dashboards.
- Develop iOS/Android apps for maintenance requests and resident updates. Ensure functionality in low-connectivity environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with TypeScript is a plus.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks for unit/integration testing (e.g., Jest).
- Knowledge of Agile development practices and tools like Jira/Confluence.
