Who we are
Helsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards.
As democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously.
We are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams, and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications.
The role
You will own the verification and validation of our Armament Control System (ACS), the safety-critical system that governs how effects are commanded and released. Working alongside systems, software and hardware engineers, you will shape the testing roadmap, build the software- and hardware-in-the-loop environments the programme depends on, and qualify the ACS against its requirements. You will decide what good evidence looks like, how it is gathered, and when the system is ready. Your test rigs and automated test suites will become shared infrastructure for the wider team, shortening the loop between design change and proven behaviour, and giving our partners confidence that the system performs safely every time.
The day-to-day
-
Develop and maintain the ACS testing roadmap across the full development cycle, so that verification keeps pace with design maturity and programme milestones
-
Specify, design and commission ACS test rigs, working with internal teams and external suppliers on mechanics, electronics, harnesses, interfaces and data acquisition
-
Write test plans and test procedures that trace every system requirement to verifiable evidence, managed in tools such as DOORS or Polarion
-
Run SIL and HIL test campaigns, investigate anomalies, produce test reports and feed findings back into design so that defects are resolved before integration
-
Automate regression and qualification testing with MATLAB/Simulink and real-time targets such as Speedgoat, measurably reducing manual test effort and cycle time
You should apply if you
-
Have verified or qualified complex, safety-critical systems in aerospace, defence, automotive or a comparable domain
-
Have built and operated software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop test environments, from architecture through to commissioning
-
Model and automate testing in MATLAB/Simulink and have worked with real-time test hardware such as Speedgoat, dSPACE or National Instruments
-
Translate system requirements into structured test plans and procedures, and document results clearly enough for qualification and customer review
-
Communicate technical reasoning clearly in written and spoken in English and German, to customers as well as engineering colleagues
-
Hold, or are willing and able to obtain, an extended German security clearance (erweiterte Sicherheitsüberprüfung, Ü2 or Ü3)
Note: We operate in an industry where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematically under-represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points.
Nice to have
-
Apply industry qualification standards such as DO-160, DO-178C or DO-254 in your testing work
