About the opportunity
Breakmark is partnering with an energy technology company to hire its next Chief Financial Officer.
Our client is transforming how businesses purchase, manage, and optimize electricity. By combining energy supply with smart metering, consumption analytics, and a digital platform, the company helps customers better understand their energy costs and make more informed operational decisions.
The company is looking for a CFO to shape its financial strategy, strengthen its financial operations, and support its next phase of growth.
About the role
The CFO will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team, owning financial performance, capital strategy, and the finance function.
This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution. You will translate growth ambitions into a clear financial roadmap, secure the liquidity and funding needed to execute, and build the systems, controls, and team required to scale.
The ideal candidate brings strong commercial judgment and understands how to balance growth, profitability, and risk in a business combining technology with the operational and financial complexity of the energy sector.
Key responsibilities
Financial strategy and planning
Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
Partner with leadership on growth priorities, pricing, investment decisions, and expansion opportunities.
Develop visibility into margins, unit economics, customer profitability, and returns on investment.
Translate financial insights into actionable recommendations for commercial and operational teams.
Liquidity and capital management
Own cash flow, treasury, working capital, and liquidity planning.
Align customer collections, supplier payments, and financing needs to support sustainable growth.
Manage relationships with banks, lenders, and financial partners.
Develop the capital structure and lead debt and equity financing processes as required.
Oversee financial due diligence, financing negotiations, and lender and investor reporting.
Financial operations and governance
Oversee accounting, financial reporting, tax, audits, and internal controls.
Ensure accurate financial statements and timely, reliable management reporting.
Build scalable processes across billing, collections, payments, and financial systems.
Strengthen controls around credit exposure, counterparty risk, and energy-related financial commitments.
Partner with legal and regulatory teams on financial obligations within the energy sector.
Board and investor engagement
Prepare board materials and communicate performance, risks, and strategic trade-offs.
Maintain strong investor relationships and support fundraising readiness.
Bring financial discipline and constructive challenge to major business decisions.
Team leadership
Build and develop a finance team capable of supporting increasing scale and complexity.
Establish clear ownership, accountability, and performance expectations.
Improve automation, data quality, and collaboration across finance, technology, commercial, and operations teams.
Candidate profile
Experience as a CFO, VP of Finance, or senior finance leader with meaningful ownership of financial strategy and operations.
A track record in a growing business, including building or strengthening the finance function.
Strong technical grounding in accounting, FP&A, treasury, working capital, and financial controls.
Direct experience raising capital, securing financing, or managing banking and investor relationships.
Strong commercial judgment and an ability to connect financial decisions to business performance.
Experience managing complex cash cycles, credit exposure, or financially demanding operating models.
Comfort working in an entrepreneurial environment, moving between strategic decisions and operational detail.
Strong communication skills and experience presenting to boards, investors, and senior stakeholders.
Professional fluency in Spanish and English.
Experience in energy, utilities, infrastructure, energy trading, or another regulated sector would be valuable. Candidates from technology or adjacent industries with strong financial depth and relevant operating experience are also encouraged to apply.
Why this opportunity
This is an opportunity to shape a business at the intersection of energy and technology, with direct influence over its growth strategy, capital allocation, financial resilience, and long-term value creation.
