Position Summary
The Billing Advocate is responsible for the timely processing and follow-up on medical claims submitted to insurance companies and other entities for payment.
Key Responsibilities
Submit on a timely basis to insurance companies' medical claims for processing.
Follow up with all payers to validate submission of hospital or physician status forms within adjudication process.
Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle time frames.
Call insurance companies regarding payments and denials to check on status and obtain EOBs.
Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances.
Answer all patient or insurance company telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.
Balance new work and follow up accounts within workload.
Work Experience & Skills
Prior experience with insurance claims is preferred but not required
Prior experience in an administrative or clerical role in an office environment preferred
Minimum of one year experience in office setting
Minimum one year experience with customer service
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Consistent ability to work with a high volume of accounts
Focused and self-motivated
Excellent investigative and problem-solving abilities
Close attention to detail and accuracy
Exceptional organization, time management, prioritization skills
Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone and in writing
Ability to contribute in a positive manner
Proficient using Microsoft office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook
Knowledge of Healthcare Terminology preferred but not required
