Job Title: Development Casting Producer
Location: Los Angeles, CA or New York City, NY (Remote)
Start Date: ASAP
Sixteenth, part of Whalar Group, is building an unscripted capability at the intersection of the Creator Economy and television and streaming. We are focused on creating, selling, and scaling premium unscripted formats and docuseries, with an emphasis on building IP that lasts.
About the role:
We’re looking for a Development Casting Producer to work across our growing development slate and find the people who make great television.
This is a highly hands-on role. You’ll take casting briefs and buckets and own the process from start to finish: research, source, outreach, interview, and edit. You should be as comfortable digging through TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, Facebook groups, local communities, news stories, and traditional casting sources as you are conducting a great interview and cutting it into compelling tape.
Great casting isn’t just finding someone who checks the boxes. It’s finding someone you can’t stop watching.
Here’s what you’ll do day to day:
- Research and source potential cast across social platforms, communities, databases, organizations, and unconventional sources.
- Conduct outreach, pre-interviews, and on-camera casting interviews.
- Identify compelling personalities, stories, relationships, stakes, conflict, and humor.
- Edit interviews into strong casting tapes and reels for development pitches.
- Build and manage organized casting pipelines across multiple projects.
- Work closely with development executives to refine searches and move quickly against deadlines.
Here's what we're looking for:
- Experience casting unscripted, reality, competition, documentary, dating, lifestyle, or other talent-driven programming.
- Ability to independently source, outreach, interview, and edit.
- Strong research instincts and an ability to find people beyond traditional casting databases.
- Excellent interviewing skills and instincts for identifying compelling television personalities.
- Strong editing and organizational skills.
- Fluency across social platforms and digital communities.
- Resourcefulness: when given an incredibly specific casting brief, you know where to look and how to reach those people.
This role is an initial three-month independent contractor engagement, compensated at $2,000 per week, with the potential for extension based on performance and the evolving needs of the business.
