Datmos brings together passionate experts who combine creativity and data to craft inspiring eCommerce experiences.
Driven by a shared passion for excellence, we help visionary brands grow by aligning commerce strategy, digital experience, and technology implementation to deliver innovative, data-driven digital commerce solutions.
Datmos is looking for a Shopify Technical Lead to lead the team that defines, builds, and scales Shopify experiences for our clients. In this unique position, you will blend three core functions: serving as a trusted technical leader for our developers, and as a strategic ecommerce advisor for our clients.
If you love being deep in Shopify themes, apps, and APIs, but you're just as comfortable in a room with a client talking conversion strategy and roadmaps, this role is built for you.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership & Shopify Delivery
- Technical Leadership: Lead the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing Shopify solutions, including themes, custom apps, and API integrations.
- Hands-On Expertise: Remain actively involved in Shopify development, including Liquid, Online Store 2.0, app development, integrations, and third-party APIs.
- Technical Standards: Champion best practices around code quality, security, performance, documentation, and maintainability across Shopify projects.
- Team Development: Mentor and coach developers through pairing, code reviews, feedback, and knowledge sharing, fostering autonomy and preventing knowledge silos.
- Technical Vision & Delivery: Guide technical direction, estimation, release planning, risk management, and delivery readiness in collaboration with Architects and Project Managers.
- AI-Enabled Development: Lead the adoption of AI coding agents and emerging technologies, establishing appropriate workflows, guardrails, and quality controls to improve team efficiency without compromising quality.
2. eCommerce Strategy & Client Partnership
- Technical Client Partnership: Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, helping them make informed decisions about their Shopify ecosystem.
- eCommerce Strategy: Contribute to eCommerce strategies and roadmaps aligned with business objectives, leveraging data, research, competitive insights, and Shopify best practices.
- Platform & Solution Advisory: Advise clients on platform capabilities, technical trade-offs, integrations, and the broader eCommerce ecosystem, including PIM, DAM, ERP, CDP, and martech solutions.
- Strategic Workshops & Pre-Sales: Lead or contribute to client workshops, proposals, discovery, and pre-sales activities, providing technical and strategic expertise.
- Business Impact: Connect technical recommendations to measurable business outcomes such as conversion, revenue, AOV, retention, and customer experience.
3. Product Ownership & Delivery Support
- Requirements & Backlog: Translate business requirements into clear user stories and support backlog management when a dedicated Product Owner is unavailable or requires support.
- Delivery Alignment: Participate in Agile ceremonies and work closely with Product Owners and Project Managers to keep business objectives aligned with technical execution.
- Prioritization: Help balance client needs, technical constraints, platform capabilities, and eCommerce opportunities to keep delivery moving forward.
Qualifications & Key Requirements
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in software development, with significant hands-on experience building and scaling Shopify or comparable eCommerce solutions.
- Shopify Expertise: Deep expertise in Shopify, Liquid, Online Store 2.0, Shopify APIs (Admin API, Storefront API, Shopify Functions), and custom app development or integrations. Shopify Plus experience is a strong asset.
- Technical Leadership: Proven experience leading, mentoring, or supervising developers, with the ability to grow a high-performing team without becoming its sole technical contributor.
- eCommerce Strategy: Strong understanding of eCommerce strategy, data-driven decision-making, KPI development, conversion optimization, customer experience, and digital roadmaps.
- Client Advisory: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to advise both technical and business stakeholders and lead strategic workshops.
- Product Ownership: Comfortable with core Product Owner practices, including requirements gathering, user stories, backlog management, prioritization, and Agile delivery.
- eCommerce Ecosystem: Working knowledge of technologies such as PIM, DAM, ERP, CDP, search and merchandising, and review platforms.
- Bilingualism: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory; French is an asset.
- AI & Emerging Technologies: Hands-on experience with AI coding agents and agentic development workflows, or a strong willingness and ability to rapidly adopt emerging AI tools and technologies.
- Analytical & Solution-Oriented: Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a high degree of autonomy, organization, and ability to prioritize.
- Agency Experience: Experience working in an agency or client-services environment is a strong asset.
- Agile Experience: Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
- Additional Platforms: Experience with other eCommerce platforms such as BigCommerce or Adobe Commerce, or headless CMS platforms such as Contentful, Sanity, or Storyblok, is an asset.
