The listing

Leidos' Power Delivery Solutions is hiring an Electrical Engineer, Microgrid Systems to serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for complete microgrid system designs. This role is responsible for the detailed, multidisciplinary electrical engineering that integrates major microgrid components — PV generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), backup/standby generators, MV/LV distribution, protection, and controls/SCADA interfaces — into a cohesive, constructible system design.

This is a hands-on system integration and design role, not a controls, applications, or product-development position. The ideal candidate has a strong background in detailed electrical design and EOR-level responsibility for microgrid or distributed energy projects, and is comfortable owning the full electrical design package from concept through construction support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Engineer of Record for microgrid electrical designs, taking ownership of system-level integration across PV, BESS, generation, and distribution assets.
  • Develop detailed electrical design deliverables, including one-line/three-line diagrams, equipment specifications, protection and coordination studies, and interconnection designs.
  • Integrate MV/LV distribution design with generation and storage assets, ensuring compliance with utility interconnection requirements and applicable codes/standards.
  • Coordinate protection scheme design and controls/SCADA interface requirements across multiple vendors and disciplines (civil, structural, controls, SCADA).
  • Lead technical review of EPC and OEM deliverables to ensure compliance with client standards and project performance requirements.
  • Interface directly with clients, EPCs, and equipment vendors to resolve design issues and ensure constructability.
  • Support permitting, interconnection applications, and utility coordination as needed.
  • Participate in and/or lead multidisciplinary design reviews for microgrid and DER projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program, with a focus on power systems.
  • 4–8 years of experience in detailed electrical design and system integration for microgrid, distribution, generation, or storage projects (EOR-level design experience strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience designing and integrating multiple DER asset types (PV, BESS, generators) into a single electrical system.
  • Experience with MV/LV distribution system design, protection coordination, and interconnection design.
  • Working knowledge of controls/SCADA interface requirements as they relate to electrical system design (controls design itself is not the primary focus of this role).
  • PE license or ability to obtain PE licensure preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VRFB, lithium-ion, or other BESS technologies at the electrical design level.
  • Familiarity with reciprocating engine/turbine generator integration.
  • Prior EOR role on one or more completed microgrid or DER projects.
  • Experience with utility interconnection standards and processes.
