Software Engineer
Location: Remote / Alexandria, VA
Clearance: Active TS/SCI or eligibility to be cleared
GeoDelphi, Inc. dba Whitespace is seeking a dynamic and innovative Software Engineer to build cutting-edge solutions within our Iris platform. You’ll be essential to the digital offering which is broken into a technological stack that is comprised of a source, engine, analytic, and a story layer. The engineering team is the technological backbone of the Iris platform working in the ‘engine layer’ to discover the ground truth. You’ll work with a team of engineers and developers designing tools to provide technical solutions to complex questions. The ideal candidate is creative, a problem solver, developer, designer, and appreciates delivering high-quality products. This position will report to the VP of Engineering.
This position is 100% remote! It does require 10% travel to the DMV region. The candidate MUST be a US citizen and reside in the contiguous United States. The candidate must be a W2 employee of GeoDelphi, Inc. No 3rd party applications.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, and maintain application phases.
- Contribute in all phases of the development life cycle
- Write well-designed, testable, efficient code
- Ensure designs are in compliance with specifications
- Recommend changes to improve established application processes
- Prepare and produce releases of software components
- Develop application code programs
- Develop and execute unit test plans
- Support formal testing and resolve test defects
- Provide technical support and consultation for application and infrastructure questions
EXPERIENCE
- Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a software engineering role
- Expert with at least one language and desire good experience with several others (Python, React, Java, etc.)
- Experience with public clouds such as AWS, Google, Rackspace
- Experience in designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production software
- Strong coding abilities emphasizing quality and testability in your work.
- Strong understanding of DevOps and software/application development processes
- Demonstrated experience with continuous integration and software CM processes/tools (GitLab, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Nexus, and other DevOps/Continuous Integration tools)
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and query optimization
- Experience acquiring client requirements and resolving workflow problems through automation optimization
- Demonstrated ability to creatively solve technical problems
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within small teams
DESIRED SKILLS
- Experience interacting with AWS SDK, AWS API, AWS CLI, and AWS CloudFormation
- Experience with population simulation, or other data simulation
- Experience with geospatial engineering
- Experience with Big Data processing tools, such as Spark/Hadoop, Google’s BigQuery, AWS’s Athena and EMR
- Strong data visualization skills
