Looking for Philippines-based candidates
Job Role: Automation & Integration Engineer
Compensation range: $2,500 - $4,000 AUD Monthly
Engagement type: Full-time, Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: Australian business hours, Monday to Friday, with availability to collaborate closely with the client and their Office Manager.
Who We Are:
At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is:
The client is an Australian roofing business developing an AI-first operations platform to streamline business processes and support future growth. The platform will connect key business systems, including ServiceM8, Xero, GoHighLevel, and roof-measurement tools, into a unified and automated operational ecosystem.
Role Overview:
This is not a typical automation or integration role. We are looking for a resourceful, commercially minded Automation & Integration Engineer who combines strong technical integration expertise, business acumen, and an understanding of operational workflows.
The core focus of this role is building and maintaining reliable two-way integrations between ServiceM8, Xero, GoHighLevel, roof-measurement tools, and other business applications. You will develop robust API integrations, configure webhooks, prevent duplicate records, implement error handling and recovery mechanisms, and ensure data flows accurately and reliably across the business's systems.
GoHighLevel is one component of the wider technology stack. The Office Manager will manage its day-to-day operations, while you will be responsible for connecting it with other business systems, supporting relevant automations, and ensuring information flows correctly across the operational ecosystem.
A key requirement of this role is developing systems transparently within the client's own Mac-based environment and AI workspace powered by Claude. The goal is to ensure that the company's AI learns its business processes, system architecture, and implementation decisions as the work progresses, so the business can understand, maintain, and troubleshoot its systems independently.
You will work closely with the Office Manager to ensure that the systems you build reflect real operational needs and improve how the business operates.
This is a long-term, full-time contractor engagement for someone who wants to take ownership of business systems, contribute to operational and financial performance, and grow into a broader business operations role over time.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Integration & Automation
- Build, maintain, and optimize integrations between ServiceM8, Xero, GoHighLevel, roof-measurement tools, and other business applications.
- Develop and manage REST API integrations, webhooks, and automated workflows to enable reliable two-way communication between systems.
- Implement data validation, conditional logic, and safeguards to prevent duplicate records and maintain data accuracy.
- Design robust error-handling, synchronization recovery, logging, and automated alerting mechanisms.
- Troubleshoot integration issues and develop practical workarounds when platforms lack native functionality.
- Test and monitor integrations to ensure reliability, scalability, and consistency across connected systems.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate manual data entry, reduce repetitive administrative work, and improve operational efficiency.
AI-First Development & System Knowledge Management
- Develop and configure automations directly within the client's own Mac-based systems and AI environment powered by Claude.
- Build transparently in the client's environment, capturing system knowledge, business logic, and implementation decisions as work progresses.
- Ensure the company's AI environment learns how the systems operate, how integrations are structured, and how common issues can be resolved.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation, solve technical challenges, and improve automation workflows.
- Maintain clear, practical documentation within the company's own environment rather than relying on documentation produced only after implementation.
- Ensure that system knowledge remains accessible to the business and is not dependent solely on the individual who built the integrations.
GoHighLevel Integration & Operational Support
- Connect GoHighLevel with ServiceM8, Xero, roof-measurement tools, and other business applications to support seamless information flow across the business.
- Build and maintain integrations that support lead management, sales follow-up, customer engagement, and operational workflows.
- Ensure relevant customer, lead, quote, and job information is synchronized accurately between GoHighLevel and connected systems.
- Support the Office Manager by developing and troubleshooting the underlying integrations that enable GoHighLevel workflows to function reliably.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual data entry and improve the consistency of information used across marketing, sales, and operations.
- Troubleshoot integration issues affecting GoHighLevel workflows without taking over the Office Manager's day-to-day platform management responsibilities.
- Monitor integration performance and proactively address synchronization issues, missing data, and workflow failures.
Business Operations & Financial Performance
- Collaborate closely with the Office Manager to understand existing workflows and identify opportunities for automation.
- Connect operational, sales, and accounting systems to improve visibility into jobs, quotes, costs, and financial performance.
- Understand profit-and-loss statements, gross profit, gross margins, labour costs, material costs, and overheads.
- Assess the financial impact of operational decisions and understand how job-level costs affect profitability.
- Use business data to identify inefficiencies, reduce unnecessary costs, and improve productivity.
- Ensure automation solutions support the company's commercial objectives rather than simply solving isolated technical problems.
- Recommend improvements that help the business scale its operations while maintaining reliable processes and financial visibility.
Testing, Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
- Test integrations under realistic conditions, including failed synchronizations, missing data, duplicate records, and system outages.
- Identify weaknesses in workflows and implement safeguards to prevent operational disruptions.
- Diagnose technical problems methodically and implement sustainable solutions.
- Establish appropriate monitoring, logging, alerts, and recovery processes across connected systems.
- Challenge assumptions and identify implementation issues before they affect live operations.
- Continuously review and improve existing systems as the business grows and its requirements evolve.
Documentation, Collaboration & Ownership
- Document integration logic, automation workflows, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures within the client's own AI environment.
- Work alongside the Office Manager to ensure that solutions are practical, intuitive, and aligned with day-to-day business processes.
- Explain technical concepts and system behaviour in plain English to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ask thoughtful questions to understand business requirements before designing or implementing solutions.
- Take ownership of the complete lifecycle of automations, from planning and development through testing, maintenance, and optimization.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement rather than waiting for instructions or tickets.
- Build maintainable systems that the company can understand, manage, and expand over the long term.
Requirements
- Proven hands-on experience building integrations between business applications using REST APIs, webhooks, and automation platforms.
- Strong understanding of two-way synchronization, data validation, duplicate prevention, error handling, and recovery mechanisms.
- Familiarity with ServiceM8, Xero, or similar field-service management, CRM, and accounting platforms.
- Experience working with AI-assisted development tools or AI environments, ideally Claude.
- Comfortable developing directly within a client's own systems and documenting technical knowledge as the work progresses.
- Strong understanding of business workflows, conditional logic, data structures, and integration troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret basic financial information, including profit-and-loss statements, gross profit, gross margins, job costs, and overheads.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through platform limitations and unexpected technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical solutions in plain English.
- A commercially minded approach, with a focus on improving operational efficiency, customer experience, and business profitability.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with business leadership and operational stakeholders.
- A proactive, accountable, and detail-oriented approach to building and maintaining business-critical systems.
Nice to Have
- Practical experience with GoHighLevel, particularly its integrations, workflows, and connections with other business applications.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is not just a developer, but a long-term systems and operations partner.
The ideal candidate:
- Takes ownership: Focuses on business outcomes rather than simply completing assigned tasks.
- Thinks commercially: Understands how automation affects revenue, operating costs, customer experience, and profitability.
- Is resourceful: Can work through technical limitations, challenge assumptions, and find practical solutions without needing every step prescribed.
- Stays calm under pressure: Approaches system failures with curiosity, accountability, and a methodical troubleshooting mindset.
- Communicates clearly: Explains complex technical concepts in plain English and asks thoughtful questions about the business.
- Values transparency: Is comfortable building live within the client's own environment and documenting knowledge throughout implementation.
- Wants to grow: Is interested in progressing beyond technical development into systems ownership, business operations, and commercial impact.
- Values long-term commitment: Wants to build lasting relationships with the business and take responsibility for the systems they develop.
Candidates should demonstrate a consistent employment history, with clear reasons for leaving previous roles and a genuine interest in a long-term opportunity.

- All intellectual property created as part of the engagement belongs to the client's designated IP-owning entity.
- Company-specific work product and materials may not be reused for personal purposes or other clients during or after the engagement, in accordance with the signed agreement.
- All company accounts, logins, credentials, and associated business information remain under the company's ownership and control.

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to:
- Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work
- Reflect this engagement on their LinkedIn profile (clearly marked as “Independent Contractor”)
