Senior Tax Advisor - Enrolled Agent

Job Description

Location: Fully Remote (U.S.)

Compensation: $50–$80/hour, depending on experience

Schedule: Part-Time to Full-Time

Contract: 1099 Independent Contractor

THE ROLE

We are a modern tax and financial advisory firm for entrepreneurs and owner-operated businesses, and we're looking for an Enrolled Agent who is exceptionally strong with people, strategy and communication.

This is not a tax-preparation role. You will own a portfolio of entrepreneur relationships and lead recurring tax-planning conversations. Your job is to understand each client's business, financial position and goals; identify planning opportunities and risks; explain recommendations clearly; and make sure those recommendations move into our technical and implementation systems.

You'll work alongside our Senior Tax Manager, accounting team, customer-success team and operations team. You do not need to personally execute every strategy or research every technical edge case. You do need enough tax knowledge to recognize opportunities, ask the right questions, communicate confidently with business owners, and know when something should be escalated for technical review.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead recurring tax-strategy and advisory calls with clients.

• Review client financials, projections, prior-year returns and previous recommendations before meetings.

• Identify tax-planning opportunities, risks and areas requiring deeper review.

• Explain complex tax concepts in clear, practical language.

• Translate meetings into a clear, actionable client plan.

• Route technical or complex issues to the Senior Tax Manager.

• Make sure recommendations enter the firm's implementation workflow.

• Proactively reach out when client financials or business changes create planning opportunities.

• Record short Loom or video explanations when useful.

• Build trusted, long-term relationships with a portfolio of entrepreneurs.

• Help improve our advisor playbook based on recurring client situations and conversations.

WHAT YOU WON'T DO

This is not a traditional public-accounting manager position. You will not spend most of your time:

• Doing bookkeeping.

• Handling routine payroll administration.

• Chasing administrative documents.

• Preparing every tax return yourself.

• Personally implementing every tax recommendation.

• Independently researching every complicated technical issue.

• Selling to new clients.

The infrastructure exists around you so you can spend the majority of your time doing what you do best: advising clients.

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

In many tax firms, the strongest tax professionals end up as managers who spend their time reviewing returns, managing deadlines and supervising production. This role is different: your main product is the quality of your advice and the quality of the client relationship.

• Work directly with successful entrepreneurs.

• Understand their businesses at a deeper level.

• Review their tax and financial structure.

• Identify meaningful planning opportunities.

• Deliver recommendations directly to the client.

• Hand technical review and implementation off to a team built to support you.

If you love tax strategy but don't want to spend the rest of your career buried in tax-return production, this role may be a strong fit.

TIME & LOCATION

• Part-Time to Full-Time.

• Fully Remote (U.S.).

• 1099 Independent Contractor.

Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED

• Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, in good standing with the IRS (required).

• 3–7+ years of tax, accounting or tax-advisory experience.

• Strong understanding of closely held businesses, S corporations and individual taxation.

• Comfortable reading P&Ls, tax returns, balance sheets and financial projections.

• Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complicated tax concepts easy for business owners to understand.

• Comfortable advising ambitious entrepreneurs, many in their 20s–40s.

• High urgency and proactive communication.

• Strong judgment around when to advise, when to investigate further and when to escalate.

• Comfortable working within structured processes instead of guessing.

• Strong presence on Zoom and video.

• Low ego and the ability to collaborate closely with technical specialists, accountants, customer-success staff and operations.

WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT

• You enjoy tax, but you enjoy working with business owners even more.

• You're curious about how a client actually makes money, how their business is changing, and how tax planning fits into the bigger picture.

• You can understand an entrepreneur's situation quickly, identify the important issues and explain next steps without making the conversation feel like a tax lecture.

• You are proactive rather than reactive.

• You don't need to know every section of the Internal Revenue Code from memory, but you have the judgment to recognize when something matters and the humility to involve a technical specialist when appropriate.

Benefits

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• $50–$80/hour, depending on experience.

• Flexible hours: start part-time with room to grow to full-time.

• 100% remote, 1099 contract.

• We care less about hiring the most credentialed person in the applicant pool and more about finding someone with the tax foundation, communication skills, judgment and personality to become an exceptional long-term advisor to our clients.
