About the Project

Tobii Dynavox is seeking a highly qualified Linguistic and Childhood Language Development specialist to support the development and review of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) content for a specific target-language community. This project is critical in ensuring that AAC content is linguistically and culturally meaningful, relevant, and aligned with real-world communication needs. We are aiming for a project start in Fall/Winter 2026.

  • Help develop a lexical database that organizes words by part of speech and morphological form

  • Support the evaluation and selection of existing lexical data sources

  • Review lexical data for errors and make corrections as needed

  • Collaborate closely with software developers and AAC content experts to define language-specific software features and expected behaviors based on the syntactic and grammatical structure of the target language

  • Review the software product and AAC implementations to ensure that vocabulary, grammar, and syntax in the target language are well supported for children’s communication needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Native speaker of the target language

  • Fluency in English

  • Background in linguistics and childhood language development

  • Strong knowledge of research on language development and vocabulary acquisition in the target language for typically developing children

  • Conceptual understanding of AAC principles and how vocabulary, grammar, and language development are represented in AAC systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AAC vocabulary organization, content design, or communication support tools for children

  • Experience reviewing lexical resources, language data, or language-focused software products

Project Commitment

  • The project is estimated to require up to 200 hours in total over a period of approximately 9 months, with an expected workload of up to 20 hours per week, depending on the project phase

  • This includes ongoing collaboration with developers, with two weekly meetings (30–60 minutes each).

  • The remaining time is expected to be dedicated to independent, self-directed work.

  • The work will be performed remotely, with meeting times aligned to Stockholm (CET).

  • Scheduling is expected to be flexible within the agreed project timeline.

  • This is an independent contractor role. This engagement does not constitute an employment relationship. Contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes.

What We Offer

  • A meaningful role with significant impact on the AAC community in the target region

  • The opportunity to shape communication tools used by individuals with complex communication needs
