About the Opportunity
Voltedge is a growing US-based electrical contracting business specialising in commercial electrical projects and rehabilitation work. We are looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator to join the team and play an important role in supporting the company's continued growth.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on electrical estimating experience who understands how electrical construction projects work in practice. You will be responsible for reviewing technical drawings, interpreting project specifications, calculating material and labour requirements, and preparing accurate, detailed cost estimates for commercial electrical projects.
We are looking for someone who can confidently work through project plans, identify potential challenges, and produce reliable estimates while communicating directly with the business owner.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Drawing & Plan Interpretation
- Review and interpret architectural, electrical and construction drawings.
- Analyse project specifications and identify electrical installation requirements.
- Identify materials, labour requirements and installation considerations.
- Flag missing information, inconsistencies and potential project risks.
2. Electrical Estimating & Costing
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial electrical and rehabilitation projects.
- Calculate material quantities, labour requirements and associated project costs.
- Complete material take-offs and break down project scopes.
- Prepare accurate pricing breakdowns for review and approval.
- Identify potential cost variations, omissions and areas requiring clarification.
3. Project Scope & Documentation
- Analyse project documentation to establish the full scope of electrical work.
- Identify scope gaps, potential omissions and unclear specifications.
- Maintain organised estimating spreadsheets, calculations and supporting documentation.
- Update estimates when drawings or project requirements change.
4. Communication & Collaboration
- Work directly with the US-based business owner to discuss project requirements.
- Clearly explain estimates, assumptions, calculations and pricing.
- Proactively raise questions and clarify uncertainties before finalising estimates.
- Communicate progress and highlight any challenges affecting estimating timelines or accuracy.
Minimum Requirements
- Previous hands-on experience as an Electrical Estimator or Construction Estimator with strong electrical project exposure.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical and architectural drawings.
- Good understanding of electrical materials, installation methods and construction processes.
- Experience calculating material quantities, labour costs and project estimates.
- Understanding of material take-offs and cost breakdowns.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage estimating responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel or similar tools.
Software Experience
Experience with any of the following tools will be advantageous:
- Accubid
- ConEst
- STACK
- PlanSwift
- Bluebeam
- Microsoft Excel
Experience with equivalent estimating software is also welcomed. We are more interested in your ability to produce accurate estimates than experience with one specific platform.
Advantageous Experience
- Commercial electrical contracting experience.
- Experience estimating electrical rehabilitation, renovation or refurbishment projects.
- Exposure to US electrical construction projects, drawings and estimating practices.
- Previous experience working with US-based electrical contractors.
- Understanding of electrical bidding processes and project costing.
- Experience working directly with business owners or smaller contracting teams.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a technically minded, analytical and detail-oriented professional who understands electrical construction beyond simply working with numbers.
You can confidently interpret technical drawings, calculate quantities, assess labour requirements and develop accurate estimates. You are comfortable taking ownership of your work, working independently and communicating directly with a US-based business owner.
Formal qualifications are beneficial, but practical electrical estimating experience, technical understanding and the ability to deliver accurate work are what matter most.
If you have hands-on electrical estimating experience and are looking for a fully remote opportunity supporting a growing US electrical contracting business, we'd love to hear from you!
