About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Marine Sedimentologist to contribute to a specialized project focused on evaluating and improving AI capabilities in marine geology and sedimentology.

This role specifically targets professionals with hands-on experience logging and describing sediment cores at sea aboard research vessels. Candidates must have practical marine sedimentology experience, including offshore core sampling, visual core description, sediment identification, and interpretation of sedimentary structures. General geology experience without direct marine core logging experience will not be sufficient.

You will review and validate AI-generated scientific content, assess technical descriptions of marine sediment cores, and provide expert feedback to improve the accuracy and reliability of AI systems. Previous AI experience is not required.

LOCATION: Remote – Global, excluding Africa and the Middle East

PROJECT: Marine geology and sedimentology AI evaluation and training

AI EXPERIENCE: Not required

WORK FOCUS: Scientific validation of marine sedimentology content, offshore core logging, and sediment core descriptions

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed, statement-by-statement validation of marine geology and sedimentology reference answers.

  • Evaluate AI-generated content related to marine lithology, sedimentary structures, grain-size classifications, and offshore core sampling protocols.

  • Review and validate sediment core descriptions, logging records, and interpretations of marine sediment sequences.

  • Assess the identification and characterization of marine sediments, soil layers, and rock formations in ocean-floor environments.

  • Apply practical experience from offshore sediment core logging and visual core description aboard research vessels when evaluating technical content.

  • Review and annotate marine geology case studies, reference materials, and scientific test sets.

  • Identify technical inaccuracies, ambiguities, and edge cases in AI-generated outputs.

  • Provide clear, detailed feedback and recommendations to improve scientific accuracy and technical interpretation.

  • Document findings and contribute to the continuous improvement of AI training and evaluation materials.

Requirements

    • Academic background in Marine Geology, Marine Sedimentology, Sedimentology, or a closely related earth science discipline.

    • Direct professional experience as a Marine Sedimentologist or equivalent specialist.

    • Hands-on experience logging and describing sediment cores at sea aboard research vessels.

    • Practical experience with offshore marine core sampling and visual core description.

    • Strong knowledge of marine sediment identification, lithology, grain-size classification, and sedimentary structures.

    • Ability to characterize and interpret sediment and rock layers in marine environments.

    • Familiarity with offshore sampling procedures and established core description protocols.

    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to review scientific information critically.

    • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to explain complex geological concepts accurately.
