Engineering Manager
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of backend engineers building the systems behind our financial products. You will own the team's delivery, technical direction and people growth, and help shape engineering culture across the department. You'll operate with significant autonomy, making key decisions on architecture, priorities and ways of working, and you will work closely with product and neighboring engineering teams to turn business goals into reliable, scalable services. Your work will directly impact the quality and speed with which Plata delivers to its customers.
Challenges that await you:
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of engineers: hiring, onboarding, career development and honest feedback, while fostering a culture of ownership and engineering excellence.
- Take ownership of your team's delivery and the reliability of its services: set priorities, plan roadmaps, and keep quality, scope and timelines in balance.
- Drive technical strategy and architecture for high-load, distributed systems, balancing immediate business needs with long-term, future-proof decisions.
- Partner with product, other engineering teams and stakeholders to understand needs, align on priorities and provide a seamless, dependable service.
- Improve engineering practices across the team and the department: code quality, testing, observability, incident management, CI/CD.
- Take part in shaping the department: share best practices, contribute to hiring standards and help grow the engineering community at Plata.
What makes you a great fit:
- 3+ years of experience leading a software engineering team, with a strong ability to mentor engineers, manage change and drive team growth.
- 5+ years of hands-on backend development, particularly building robust, high-scale, distributed systems.
- Deep experience designing, building and operating production systems with high throughput and reliability requirements.
- Comfortable in our primary tech environment: JVM languages (Java/Kotlin), Kubernetes and AWS.
- Strong understanding of what it takes to build resilient, fault-tolerant systems, including microservices, messaging and data storage.
- A strategic, product-oriented mindset with the ability to connect technical solutions to business metrics like cost, reliability and speed of delivery.
- English at B2 or higher for effective work with an international team.
Nice to have
- Golang development experience
- Experience in fintech, banking or other regulated, high-load environments.
- Experience with payment systems, third-party API integrations or event-driven architectures.
- Experience scaling a team or managing several teams

- Healthcare Coverage
- Education Budget: Language lessons, professional training and certifications
- Wellness Budget: Mental health and fitness activity reimbursements
- Vacation Policy: Annual leave and paid sick leave as per applicable policies
