About Proximity Foundation
Proximity Foundation runs structured coding education programs for young people aged 14-18 at Community Care Institutions (CCIs). Using a computer-based LMS curriculum covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL, we pair students with volunteer mentors in cohort-based sessions designed to build real technical skills and lasting confidence.
We are scaling from the first cohort to many cohorts within Mumbai and building the operational team that will carry this program forward. Every role in Proximity Foundation is a direct investment in the young people we serve.
Role Type : Volunteer — On-Call / Flexible
Time Commitment : 2-3 hrs/week (for 1 hr on weekday - one day a week only) and one hour on weekend (either Saturday or Sunday)
Department : Program Delivery (On-Call)
Reports to : Program Coordinator Lead
ROLE FOCUS
Step in to cover sessions when active mentors are unavailable. You'll build familiarity with the LMS curriculum and student cohorts so you can jump in confidently on short notice — and scale into a full mentor role as the program grows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Step in as session facilitator when a primary mentor is unavailable
- Build familiarity with the LMS curriculum to cover sessions confidently
- Stay briefed on session plans and student progress for assigned cohorts
- Attend orientation and occasional training sessions
- Maintain close communication with Program Coordinator
- Scale into an active mentor role as the program and cohorts grow
WHAT A TYPICAL WEEK LOOKS LIKE
Most weeks are quiet — you're on standby. When called in, you'll have a session plan ready and a quick briefing from the Program Coordinator. The expectation is responsiveness and readiness, not constant availability.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
A low-commitment way to get involved that could easily grow into a full mentor role. You'll be part of the team from day one and get to see the program in action.

To express interest in this role, please send a short note (no formal CV required) to: Bhoomi.k@proximity.foundation
Tell us a little about yourself, why this role appeals to you, and any relevant experience. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds — enthusiasm and reliability matter most.
