1 big thing: Axios Local is hiring reporters and writers near our existing markets in regions across the U.S. to support our growing network of local newsletters.

What you’ll do:
- Write high-impact local news items in Axios’ Smart Brevity style (typically short-form, daily pieces)
- Jump on timely stories, events and trends
- Contribute to Axios Local newsletters (we're in 39 cities and counting), plus their websites and social media accounts as needed, often with a daily turnaround
- Collaborate with an editor and/or full-time newsletter author(s)
- Help fill longer coverage gaps occasionally, (e.g. 1-3 months) as needed
What success looks like:
- You deliver clean, accurate, engaging copy on deadline
- You surface story ideas that resonate with local readers
- You adapt quickly to feedback and sharpen your work over time
What we’re looking for:
- Strong news judgment and clean, concise writing
- Ability to move quickly and hit deadlines
- Omnivorous curiosity and enthusiasm for reporting & writing about numerous subject areas, from sports to business to dining to development to how we get around
- Comfort writing in a conversational, reader-first voice
- Equally comfortable doing original reporting and smart aggregation
- Experience with newsletters or audience-focused writing
- Familiarity with our Smart Brevity style (or willingness to learn fast)
- Strong communication skills and experience working in a remote environment
- A self-starter: While you may be assigned some stories, you'll be counted on to bring executable ideas forward every day

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $27/hour - $45/hour and the exact rate will be determined by the location of the candidate.
