Your Role 

As a Controller, you'll help oversee Evergreen Nephrology's accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timeliness across financial reporting. This includes managing the general ledger, leading month-end and year-end close processes, and preparing financial statements in accordance with GAAP, along with supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and treasury functions. You'll lead a team of accountants, setting clear performance goals and providing mentorship along the way. Partnering with leadership across functions, you'll help shape financial policies and internal controls, and work closely with external auditors and tax professionals to support annual audits and tax filings. This role will report to the SVP of Finance.   

While this position is fully remote, you must be able to work 8:30am – 5pm in the Central time zone.  

Role Responsibilities 

This role's primary duties include the following: 

Accounting, Payroll and Tax Operations: 

  • Manage the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions. 
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. 
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing. 
  • Implement and maintain robust accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards. 
  • Work with external vendors to prepare annual federal and state taxes. 
  • Assist with financial reporting, budgeting and long-term planning efforts as required. 

 Treasury & Cash Management: 

  • Monitor cash flow, ensuring the company has adequate liquidity to meet its obligations. 
  • Oversee the administration of the treasury function, including funds flow to various partners. 
  • In conjunction with finance leadership, manage banking relationships and optimize the company’s cash position through effective cash management strategies. 

 Compliance & Risk Management: 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including tax filings and financial reporting standards. 
  • Oversee the annual audit process, working with external auditors to ensure a smooth and efficient audit. 
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, including those related to contracts, credit, and operational processes. 

 Team Leadership & Development: 

  • Lead and mentor the accounting and payroll team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. 
  • Evaluate team performance and provide regular feedback, coaching, and training to support career growth. 
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and resources to meet the company’s financial reporting and operational needs.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA highly preferred; MBA or other advanced degree preferred 
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 4 years in a leadership role 
  • Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems; experience specifically with NetSuite highly preferred  
  • Experience in the healthcare industry, particularly in value-based care or managed care organizations, is highly desirable  
  • Strong analytical skills and technological proficiency, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights  
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on driving performance and accountability  
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards  
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy  
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite of products including Outlook and Teams
