HireHawk connects skilled professionals worldwide with meaningful remote opportunities at U.S. and Canadian companies. We believe strong talent can be found anywhere and deserves the opportunity to contribute to high-impact work from anywhere in the world.

For this position, HireHawk is recruiting on behalf of a U.S.-based employment law firm focused on identifying and supporting potential plaintiffs in employment and labor law matters.

As an Accounting Specialist, you will support the day-to-day financial operations of a busy U.S. law firm. You will take ownership of accurate bookkeeping, reconciliations, transaction processing, reporting, and month-end support using QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role for someone who enjoys accurate execution and independent ownership rather than management or CFO-level responsibilities. You will handle confidential financial information, identify discrepancies before they become larger issues, and help the firm maintain reliable financial records in a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete and accurate financial records across the firm’s IOLTA trust accounts and business operating accounts.
  • Protect client funds by processing trust transactions carefully and keeping IOLTA records current, accurate, and fully traceable.
  • Reconcile bank, trust, operating, and accounting records, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Process deposits, disbursements, transfers, invoices, expenses, and other financial transactions with close attention to supporting documentation.
  • Keep QuickBooks organized and up to date so the firm has dependable financial information available when needed.
  • Prepare recurring financial, reconciliation, and transaction reports using QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • Support month-end accounting activities by reviewing balances, organizing records, and completing required reconciliations.
  • Communicate clearly with legal and operational team members when information, approvals, or corrections are needed.
  • Identify unusual activity, missing documentation, or potential accounting issues and raise them proactively.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling client funds, financial records, settlement-related information, and internal business data.

Requirements

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or completed accounting coursework.
  • Previous hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience within a U.S. law firm.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both IOLTA trust accounts and business operating accounts.
  • Advanced QuickBooks proficiency, including the ability to work efficiently with transactions, reconciliations, reports, and account records.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, reconciliations, data organization, and financial reporting.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals and the ability to learn new workflows quickly, manage competing priorities, work independently, and maintain accuracy and confidentiality in a busy legal environment.

Nice to Have:

  • Accounting experience within a personal injury law firm.
  • Experience supporting month-end closing activities for a legal practice.
  • Familiarity with settlement-related transactions, client ledgers, or personal injury case accounting.
  • Experience improving bookkeeping, reconciliation, or financial reporting processes.

Benefits

  • Access to a $200K+ perk marketplace with discounts on 150+ global services.
  • Option to withdraw up to 50% of approved earnings before payday.
