Summary
The Sr Director, Revenue Accounting & Commercial Finance will lead a small team responsible for strengthening the company’s revenue accounting capabilities and providing finance partnership to the Commercial organization.
This role requires strong ASC 606 expertise, analytical judgment, financial-modeling capabilities, and the ability to connect accounting, operational, market, and commercial considerations into practical financial insights.
On the revenue accounting side, the role will partner closely with Accounting, Revenue Cycle, Market Access, and Enterprise Analytics to lead a rigorous, scalable, and well-controlled revenue close process. The Sr Director will help ensure revenue is accurately accounted for, accrual-rate estimates are supported by appropriate analysis, and relevant payer, reimbursement, policy, billing, collections, and operational developments are reflected in revenue-accounting judgments.
On the commercial finance side, the role will partner with Commercial leaders in making better business decisions through financial modeling, business-case development, performance analysis, and assessment of growth initiatives, translating data and analysis into clear recommendations and decision support.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a small Revenue Accounting & Commercial Finance team
- Partner with Accounting to lead accurate, timely, and well-controlled revenue month-end-close processes
- Interpret and apply ASC 606 revenue-recognition guidance, including the evaluation and documentation of accounting conclusions, estimates, and related controls.
- Lead public-company reporting, external-audit activities, and internal-control requirements related to revenue accounting and revenue close processes.
- Own or lead the development, maintenance, and review of revenue accrual-rate estimates and related models
- Work closely with Revenue Cycle and Market Access to identify market, payer, reimbursement, policy, and operational developments that may affect revenue realization and incorporate them into accrual-rate estimates and revenue-accounting assumptions.
- Partner with Enterprise Analytics to develop and improve the data model, reporting infrastructure, reconciliations, and analytical tools needed to lead an efficient revenue-accounting month-end close and more accurate accrual rate estimates.
- Work with large and complex datasets to analyze revenue trends, evaluate estimate performance, identify emerging risks, and diagnose variances.
- Evaluate the impact of payer behavior, coverage and policy changes, prior authorization, denials, underpayments, claims operations, billing processes, and collections performance on revenue estimates and financial results.
- Establish reporting and review processes that connect operational, billing, collections, and financial data; identify material variances; and drive timely resolution with accountable stakeholders.
- Lead annual operating planning, long-range planning, forecasting, scenario analysis, and variance analysis, with a particular focus on revenue per test and commercial operating expenses
- Lead commercial finance activities, including financial modeling, business-case development, evaluation of commercial initiatives, and analysis of revenue drivers and performance.
- Prepare concise, decision-oriented executive presentations
- Manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to evolving and ad hoc business needs while maintaining high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and analytical rigor.
Education, Experience, and Skills
- 12+ years experience in revenue accounting, commercial finance, strategic finance, FP&A, public accounting, or a related finance role within a public company or similarly rigorous financial-reporting environment.
- Strong expertise interpreting and applying ASC 606 revenue-recognition guidance, including technical accounting analysis, accounting conclusions, revenue estimates, and control considerations.
- Public-company experience, including familiarity with financial close, external-audit support, internal controls, financial reporting, and executive communications.
- Experience leading, developing, or mentoring a small finance or accounting team.
- Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Revenue Cycle, Market Access, Commercial, Accounting, FP&A, and executive leaders.
- Experience assessing how reimbursement, payer, policy, and operational developments affect revenue realization, accrual estimates, and financial performance.
- Strong financial-modeling and business-case-development skills, with the ability to evaluate investments, commercial initiatives, and expected financial outcomes.
- Advanced analytical capabilities and experience working with large, complex datasets to reconcile financial and operational information, identify trends, evaluate estimates, and diagnose performance gaps.
- Experience working with analytics or data teams to design or improve data models, reporting infrastructure, dashboards, reconciliations, and financial-close processes.
- Excellent executive communication skills, including experience preparing clear, concise, and decision-oriented presentations for senior leadership.
- Healthcare, diagnostics, laboratory testing, life sciences, reimbursement, or another complex revenue environment strongly preferred.
