The listing

The Software Engineer-II for Ads builds the data, analytics, and product experiences that help Merchants and Brands understand advertising performance and decide where to invest next. This role will strengthen the Ads experience across the customer-facing Brand Experience platform and the internal Merchant Station platform by turning complex advertising data and business logic into clear, actionable insights.

Ads, together with DART and margin calculators, is a critical input into day-to-day Merchant decisions. The current Ads experience is one of the least-used areas in Brand Experience because it does not yet provide essential data, including keyword-level detail, or a compelling explanation of performance. This engineer will help overhaul that experience, support rapid proofs of concept, and build scalable capabilities that contribute to Merchandising's goal in additional programmatic Brand support across Ads, Promotions, and Pricing Support.

What Success Looks Like

• Delivers a significantly improved Ads experience in Brand Experience and Merchant Station, increasing engagement with a page that currently has the lowest usage on the platform.

• Provides Merchants and Brands with accurate, decision-ready advertising data, including keyword-level performance insights.

• Enables Merchants to audit advertising spend, explain the impact of Project Astra, and present a clear story about Spreetail's advertising strategy and results.

• Builds actionable recommendations that help Brands understand when and where additional advertising investment can create value.

• Runs focused proofs of concept quickly, incorporates feedback, and scales successful approaches into reliable product capabilities.

• Contributes to Merchandising's goal of securing $1 million in additional programmatic Brand support across Ads, Promotions, and Pricing Support.

• Improves the reliability, clarity, and usability of advertising data across both internal and Brand-facing workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, test, and maintain full-stack features for Ads across Brand Experience and Merchant Station.

• Develop data services and visualizations that show advertising performance, spend, impact, and opportunities for action.

• Translate advertising strategy, Project Astra outputs, and complex business rules into clear product experiences for Merchants and Brands.

• Create keyword-level and other detailed views needed to diagnose performance and support investment decisions.

• Integrate advertising data into existing Merch Tech workflows while maintaining accuracy, freshness, and consistency.

• Partner with Merchants, Product, Design, Data, and engineering teammates to clarify user needs and prioritize the highest-value capabilities.

• Develop proofs of concept to test how Ads insights and storytelling can increase Brand engagement and support dollars.

• Improve deployment workflows so new data, metrics, and product enhancements can reach users faster and more safely.

• Apply strong engineering practices, including code reviews, automated testing, monitoring, documentation, and maintainable system design.

• Investigate production issues, resolve data or experience gaps, and continuously improve platform performance and usability.

Key Metrics You Will Impact

• Engagement and adoption of Ads capabilities in Brand Experience and Merchant Station.

• Availability and completeness of decision-critical Ads data, including keyword-level information.

• Merchant ability to audit advertising spend and communicate advertising performance to Brands.

• Speed and quality of proofs of concept, experiments, and subsequent production releases.

• Contribution toward $1 million in additional programmatic Brand support across Ads, Promotions, and Pricing Support.

• Data accuracy, platform reliability, defect rates, and time to resolve issues.

• Cycle time for introducing new Ads data, insights, and user actions into the platforms.

Skills and Experience

• Strong 3-5 years of full-stack development skills, with experience connecting backend data services to intuitive front-end experiences.

• Experience developing analytics, reporting, or data-visualization products that help users make decisions.

• Ability to translate complex business logic and large datasets into accurate, understandable, and actionable product features.

• Experience working with APIs, data integrations, data quality checks, and modern software delivery practices.

• Strong understanding of automated testing, code quality, monitoring, and maintainable system design.

• Comfort working in ambiguity, testing ideas quickly, learning from users, and iterating toward scalable solutions.

• Clear communication and effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience with e-commerce, pricing, promotions, or merchant-facing platforms is preferred.
