ABOUT THE ROLE
A sole practitioner in Bloomington, Indiana is seeking a remote Legal Assistant to support a creditor rights and real estate practice. The role is approximately one-third reception and two-thirds legal administrative work. The right candidate is detail-oriented, accurate, and comfortable working across multiple screens in a fast-paced, process-driven environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reception
- Serve as the first point of contact on a Zoom phone system
- Answer and screen 12 to 30 incoming calls per day (average 12 to 15; busy periods up to 30)
- Take detailed messages and route calls to the attorney, in-house paralegal, or title agent
- Field calls from adversaries and consumer debtors professionally and with composure
Legal Administrative Support
- Open new matters in Clio and complete all intake data entry
- Generate engagement letters from firm templates for attorney review and signature
- Create and maintain organized electronic client files
- Manage a high-volume collections docket for institutional creditor clients (3 credit unions and 6 private banks), with emphasis on accuracy and consistency
- Prepare demand letters and assemble documents from standardized forms
- Submit pleadings and proposed orders through the Indiana e-filing system (all filings reviewed and approved by the attorney prior to submission)
- Participate in daily Zoom check-ins with the attorney and periodic client calls
REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Prior experience in a U.S. law firm, particularly in collections or creditor rights, is strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Clio or comparable practice management software
- Comfortable working across multiple screens simultaneously
- High attention to detail and consistency; accuracy matters more than speed on repetitive tasks
- AI-forward mindset; the firm actively uses AI tools
- Reliable internet connection and professional remote work setup
