About The Role
Hi, I'm James, and I help lead the Infrastructure & Enablement group at Jane. Platform Engineering and Developer Experience are career passions of mine, and both are areas critical to our group here. One of the many reasons I joined Jane was to help developers here spend more time helping our helpers and less time worrying about day-to-day development.
Jane's product development org grew from 250 to almost 500 staff in about two and a half years. Roughly 350 of us ship software every day leveraging GitHub, Jira, AWS, and more. We've rapidly outgrown the side-of-desk administration of these platforms that are key to our software and product delivery lifecycle. Helping shape the developer experience through settings, security, governance, and implementation in these tools is what the Developer Operations team is all about.
That's the job. You'd be a foundational builder as part of a new Developer Operations team, and the first dragon to wrangle is GitHub. GitHub is your platform to own end to end: help drive a more mature baseline, automate it, roll it out, and support the teams already using it. This is taking the tools we already use and making them genuinely delightful to use, so the safe path is also the easy, default path. Our concrete target is every repo at Jane is compliant with a defined operational and security baseline within twelve months. Alongside GitHub, this role continues to grow in scope and breadth taking on administration and integration of all of the key tools in our SDLC, and helping us introduce new ones to fill the gaps as we identify them.
You own this with real independence, but with the support and guidance of working groups that have already done the hard thinking on what the baselines should be. Partners in Security, Delivery Engineering, Backend Foundations, Developer Acceleration, and more - already care deeply about the outcome, but you're responsible for taking that guidance and making it a reality. Agentic and AI development raise the value of getting this system humming now, rather than later. The same model continues to streamline our SDLC from end-to-end encompassing Jira, DataDog, and whatever comes next. You're helping shape how this team works before there's even a team to shape.
You'd be joining a group that treats developer experience as real work with real leverage. Over 300 people will have their day-to-day lives made better because of the choices you get to make.
If you like the idea of taking a sprawling, underserved platform and turning it into something people trust, I'd love to meet you.
What Impact We're Looking For You To Make
Be the accountable owner of GitHub at Jane. Multiple orgs, 900+ repos, 300+ developers. You set the operational and security baseline, you decide what good looks like, and you're the person the org can escalate to instead of guessing.
Collaborate to build the golden path so the safe path is the default path. Repo creation, branch protections and rulesets, required reviews, secret scanning, least-privilege access - configured so teams get the right setup without having to know the rules, rather than a wiki page nobody reads. These golden paths also help guide teams on discovering technologies already available to them, reducing duplication of efforts, and ultimately helping teams help the helpers faster.
Automate compliance instead of policing it. Configuration drift detection, compliance reporting, and guided enforcement through bots and dashboards, so standards hold without depending on any one engineer remembering them. Partner closely with our Platform Security teams on access controls, secret management, and alerting that actually reaches the right people.
Lead the change management, not just the change. Changing how GitHub works changes how every team ships. Expect entrenched workflows and some pushback, and expect to bring people along collaboratively rather than shipping a policy and hoping. Get us from a defined baseline to 100% of repos compliant within twelve months through a phased rollout - pilot with a few teams, then broaden - with hands-on migration support for the teams that need it.
Prove the model, then extend it. Take what works on GitHub to Jira, Datadog, JFrog and beyond, and help define how this new team operates as it grows.
What Experience We Need
Hands-on administration of developer tooling at organizational scale. A systems administrator profile with a DevOps/DevEx slant. You've owned platforms other engineers depend on, and you're comfortable running them whether they're managed SaaS or something we host ourselves. That includes practical GitHub administration: org and enterprise settings, rulesets and branch protections, GitHub Apps and integrations, Actions, SSO/SCIM and access management, secret scanning and code security, and audit logs. If you've cleaned up a large, drifted GitHub estate before, lead with that.
Configuration as code rather than clicking through settings. Terraform, the GitHub API, and enough scripting - Bash, Python, TypeScript, or similar - to automate config, drift detection, and reporting across hundreds of repos. Comfort hosting and running tools in AWS, ideally including EKS, for the pieces we operate ourselves.
A security-first instinct. Least privilege by default, sound secret management, and a track record of partnering with security teams rather than working around them.
The autonomy and consultative skill this level asks for. You'll be the first person on a team that doesn't exist yet, working across an org that hasn't had an owner here. We need someone who defines the baseline rather than waiting to be handed one, and who's comfortable with the ambiguity that comes with that. Much of this job is influence without authority: getting hundreds of developers to adopt standards they didn't ask for, and making them feel supported rather than governed.
Fluency with AI coding tools (we lean on Claude first, Cursor second), able to direct agents through real automation, reporting, and migration work while staying responsible for correctness and blast radius, and keeping the judgment that org-wide configuration changes deserve.
If you don't meet every single qualification but are excited about this role, we'd still love to hear from you.

Compensation & Benefits
At Jane, we're committed to paying fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has an annual salary range of CAD$128,000 to CAD$200,000. While that is a large range, it is intentional. It reflects the full growth journey someone might take in the role, from developing skills early on to becoming highly proficient and ultimately achieving excellence.
Most new hires join at the accomplished stage, which for this role represents an annual salary of CAD$152,000. A starting salary below this typically indicates a candidate with strong potential who is still developing key skills. Salaries above this usually apply to existing team members who have made a significant impact and bring deep Jane-specific knowledge.
We believe in paying for growth. You'll have regular career development conversations with your manager, and your compensation will grow as you gain experience and contribute meaningfully to our mission.
This role also includes equity through our JSOP (Jane Stock Option Plan). Our stock has grown 11x over the past six years, with three opportunities to exercise options along the way. Jane was valued at $1.8B in May 2025, and with the backing of TCV, we have ambitious plans ahead.
We also offer a comprehensive benefits package. You can explore our benefits package here: Canadian Benefits
