Project Overview
We are seeking experienced English language professionals for an upcoming language assessment project with a leading global client.
The project involves evaluating a new English language proficiency assessment. Raters will assess both written and spoken English responses using the CEFR (A1-C2) framework. For spoken responses, raters will also provide intelligibility judgments and brief written rationales.
All work will be completed remotely through an online rating platform.

Project Timeline
- Recruitment and onboarding: October 2026
- Training and calibration: Early November 2026
- Rating activities: November 2026 – January 2027
- One-week break between Christmas and New Year
- Expected commitment: 20-25 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Evaluate written and spoken English responses using CEFR proficiency descriptors
- Assign proficiency ratings according to project guidelines
- Assess intelligibility of spoken responses
- Provide brief written rationales where required
- Participate in training, calibration, and feedback sessions
- Maintain consistency and quality throughout the rating period
Required Qualifications
- Native or near-native proficiency in English (US, UK, Canadian, Australian, or New Zealand English)
- Postgraduate qualification (Master's degree or higher) in one of the following areas:
- TESOL
- Applied Linguistics
- Second Language Acquisition
- Language Testing / Assessment
- English Language Education
- Related field
- Experience teaching English as a second or foreign language
- Familiarity with the CEFR framework
- Strong written communication skills
- Availability for at least 20-25 hours per week between November 2026 and January 2027
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience scoring or rating English language assessments
- Experience with high-stakes English examinations, such as:
- IELTS
- TOEFL
- Cambridge English examinations
- National or international English proficiency assessments
- Examiner, rater, assessor, or language testing experience
Additional Opportunity
A subset of selected raters may be invited to participate in an expert standard-setting panel.
Candidates with experience rating high-stakes English language examinations are particularly encouraged to apply.
