Overview of the Position:
The position is part of the Global Specialty US Actuarial Pricing team supporting the Financial Lines portfolio. As the lead pricing actuary for Professional Liability E&O, this individual will play a key role in developing pricing strategies, evaluating profitability, and supporting profitable growth. The role partners closely with Underwriting, Finance, Claims, IT, and other actuarial teams and communicates analyses and recommendations to senior leaders. This position also manages two actuarial analysts or associates.
Responsibilities:
As a key member of the Global Specialty Actuarial team, this individual will lead or support rate development, price monitoring, loss-ratio planning, profitability studies, and rate filings, where applicable. The role may also support semiannual reserve studies.
Expected Results:
- Develop, enhance, and maintain rating and pricing models.
- Identify and analyze key pricing and profitability benchmarks.
- Develop sophisticated pricing strategies that support profitable growth.
- Analyze internal pricing performance, market trends, and competitor information.
- Develop and maintain price-monitoring tools and reporting.
- Support financial planning through loss-ratio forecasting.

Experience & Skills
- Undergraduate degree with a major in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or related field of study.
- FCAS preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of Property and Casualty Insurance Actuarial experience.
- Financial Lines (E&O, D&O, EPL, Cyber) experience is preferred, but other experience in supporting lower frequency/higher severity products may also be applicable.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
- Independently motivated; constantly looks for areas to add value.
- Teamwork skills including ability to effectively collaborate with and influence individuals at different organizational levels.
Work Arrangement:
This role can have a Hybrid work arrangement in hub offices located in Hartford CT, Chicago, IL, or Charlotte, NC. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office may be considered for a remote work arrangement with occasional travel.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
