About Monterail & The New Default
Monterail is a product design and software development company that has rebuilt how it works for the agentic era. Since 2010, we’ve designed and built web, mobile, and AI products for 400+ clients worldwide. Our video interview series, The New Default, documents how engineers, product leaders, CTOs, and founders at leading tech companies are building digital products with AI. Practical talk, real production stories, no buzzwords. With 100+ episodes and clips published, and long-form conversations with guests such as Samuel Colvin (creator of Pydantic) and Asaf Yonay (Head of Frontend Engineering, Wix), we’re looking for a tech-savvy, native English-speaking host based in the UK to lead upcoming conversations and help grow the show’s network.
Role Overview
As the host of "The New Default", you will own the end-to-end guest lifecycle, from identifying and reaching out to potential speakers to conducting insightful on-camera interviews. This is a flexible, freelance B2B engagement ideal for professionals who wish to host 2–3 conversations per month alongside their primary role or consulting work. Editing, post-production, and distribution are fully handled by Monterail's internal media team.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Speaker Sourcing & Outreach: Independently prospect, research, and recruit relevant guest speakers (founders, product leaders, CTOs, PMs) building with AI, using cold outreach and networking strategies.
- Prequalification & Briefing: Conduct pre-screening calls to evaluate guests' speaking ability, ensure aligned topics, and brief speakers on recording expectations.
- Interview Execution: Host and record 2–3 remote video podcast episodes monthly. Drive engaging, deep-dive discussions beyond scripts prepared by the host to extract practical industry insights.
- Workflow Optimization: Leverage AI tools and modern automation to streamline guest research, brief creation, and outreach workflows.
- Team Synchronization: Participate in weekly sync calls with Monterail’s marketing team to align on pipeline, themes, and guest profiles. Monterail’s marketing team will offer feedback and will be accepting potential guests.
Requirements
- Language & Location: Native English speaker (UK or US native accent), currently residing in the UK with a visible local presence/network.
- Tech & AI Savviness: Strong interest and familiarity with AI applications in digital product development, software architecture, and modern tech trends.
- On-Camera & Interview Skills: Natural charisma, excellent communication, strong active listening, and the ability to ask sharp, insightful follow-up questions live on camera.
- Self-Starter & Networker: Demonstrated capability to independently build contact lists, execute outreach campaigns, or leverage an existing network of tech contacts.
- Technical Setup: Professional remote setup (high-quality microphone, clean aesthetic background, appropriate lighting, and stable high-speed internet connection).
Offer & Collaboration Terms
- Contract Type: Freelance / B2B contract.
- Compensation: Per-deliverable structure (paid per finalized interview video delivered to the internal team).
- Work Mode: 100% remote (UK-based).
- Volume: 2–3 episodes per month.
