Position Overview

The open role within the Risk and Profitability Measurement (RPM) team is a key position supporting The Hartford's Economic Capital parameterization and capital attribution processes across all P&C lines. This role will have a holistic view of the enterprise's P&C risk profile and partner closely with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and other stakeholders across the organization, including Pricing, Reserving, Treasury, and Finance.

The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of Economic Capital parameterization, helping ensure that the model appropriately reflects underlying risk characteristics. Using Economic Capital model results, this individual will perform analyses that inform capital attribution, Return on Equity (ROE) modeling, and other risk-adjusted performance metrics used to evaluate the relationship between risk, capital, and profitability across P&C lines and products.

Responsibilities :

  • Advance RPM's innovation efforts by enhancing capital measurement methodologies, analytical capabilities, and reporting solutions.
  • Partner with ERM to enhance Economic Capital model granularity, parameterization techniques, and capital attribution methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain insurance risk parameterizations used within the Economic Capital model.
  • Perform sensitivity testing and analytics to assess the impact of changing assumptions, risk characteristics, and capital requirements on business performance.
  • Develop insights that support management's understanding of the relationship between risk, capital consumption, and profitability.
  • Assess the impact of proposed Economic Capital model enhancements on capital attribution outcomes and risk-adjusted performance metrics.
  • Communicate Economic Capital and capital attribution results to business partners, actuarial leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide analytical support and respond to ad hoc requests related to capital, profitability, and risk-adjusted performance measurement.
  • Develop deep expertise in Economic Capital, capital attribution, and risk-adjusted performance concepts and apply that knowledge to evolving business needs.

Experience & Skills :

  • 4+ years of experience in the insurance industry, with a background in actuarial, risk, Economic Capital, ERM, or financial modeling.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel and experience working with large datasets and quantitative models. Experience with R, Python or other programming languages is a plus. Experience with Igloo modeling software is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with business partners across functional areas.
  • Innovative and results-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership and curiosity.
