The listing
ICS.AI · Remote (UK)
Full-time, permanent
Salary up to £35,000
Turn ideas, client needs and AI opportunities into products that are clear, buildable and ready to deliver.
ICS.AI is the UK’s market leader in AI solutions for local government, partnering with more than 20 councils to transform public service delivery. Our products span AI contact centres, staff copilots and social care copilots, helping organisations improve resident experiences, increase productivity and deliver smarter services.
We’re looking for a Product Specialist to take ownership of one of our core products. Sitting within the Product team and reporting to the Product Manager, you’ll become the product authority turning client and business needs into validated specifications, a sprint-ready backlog and accurate product documentation.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading the Specify process for core product builds, creating detailed specifications and AI-assisted prototypes.
- Managing and maintaining the backlog for one core product in Azure DevOps.
- Grooming, prioritising and sizing backlog items with the Product Manager so the backlog stays sprint-ready.
- Writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria that support confident development, testing and release.
- Producing and maintaining user guides, release notes, onboarding materials and process documentation.
- Turning feedback from client user groups, AI Champion networks, QBRs and service tickets into structured backlog inputs.
- Contributing to sprint reviews, retrospectives and backlog refinement sessions across product lines.
- Supporting go-to-market materials, feature descriptions and release communications.
What makes this role different
This is a hands-on product ownership role at the centre of how ICS.AI specifies and builds AI products. You’ll work closely with Delivery, Technical Leads, Engineering and the Product Manager, using AI-assisted prototyping to move from an identified need to a clear, testable and buildable solution. Your impact will be visible in the quality of the backlog, the clarity of the product documentation and the confidence with which features move into delivery.
What we’re looking for
- Hands-on experience managing an Agile backlog and taking part in sprint ceremonies, typically gained as a Product Owner, Business Analyst or in a similar technology, AI or software role.
- Strong written communication, with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear user stories, acceptance criteria and specifications.
- Confidence using AI prototyping and requirements tools, including vibe-prototyping platforms.
- A structured, detail-focused approach to documentation and backlog management.
- The ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of GenAI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation and agentic AI—including a practical understanding of what AI agents can and cannot do.
- A practical understanding of SaaS or AI product development, release management and versioning.
- Eligibility to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Nice to have
- Experience as a Product Owner.
- Experience with Azure DevOps Boards or equivalent backlog tooling.
- Hands-on use of AI or vibe-prototyping tools to create working prototypes or specifications.
- Experience of local government or wider public sector service delivery.
- A Product Owner certification such as CSPO or PSPO.
The package
- Salary up to £35,000.
- Full-time, permanent role.
- Remote within the UK, with occasional travel to Basingstoke and client sites.
- £100 per month working-from-home allowance.
- Vitality Healthcare Plan.
- Pension scheme.
- 25 days’ holiday.
- Support for relevant professional development and qualifications.
