Looking for Philippines-based candidates
Job Role: Senior Bookkeeper
Compensation range: $2,200 AUD - $2,800 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.
Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is: We are a Sydney-based luxury interior design studio creating highly personalized homes that balance sophisticated design with warmth, functionality and individuality. From renovations and new builds through to furniture, art and styling. We take a considered end-to-end approach to transforming spaces. Every project is shaped around the client’s lifestyle, taste and vision with careful attention to form, materials, texture and the finer details that make a home feel truly personal.
Our experienced multidisciplinary team works closely with clients, builders, architects and other design professionals to guide projects from the initial concept through to construction and final styling. Combining creative thinking with detailed planning, advanced visualization and a strong understanding of the build process. We bring ideas to life with clarity and care. The result is beautifully resolved, enduring spaces that feel distinctive, cohesive and uniquely their own.
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration across multiple related entities. The role requires strong Australian bookkeeping knowledge and hands-on Xero experience, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, GST, BAS preparation, and inter-company transactions. You will maintain accurate financial records, reconcile inter-company balances, monitor cash flow, prepare payment batches for approval, and ensure financial information is organized and ready for review by the external accountant.
This role suits a proactive, detail-oriented bookkeeper who can work independently, manage recurring weekly and monthly tasks, and identify issues before they become problems. You will work closely with the business owner and external accountant, raising queries when transactions are unclear and ensuring GST, PAYG withholding, and superannuation liabilities are properly recorded and easy to review. Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, sound financial reporting knowledge, and the ability to document processes are essential to maintaining consistent, reliable financial operations across the group.
Key Responsibilities:
- Weekly bank reconciliations across the active entities
- Processing supplier bills and preparing payment batches for approval
- Preparing and issuing customer invoices from the sales information provided
- Maintaining accounts payable and receivable
- Processing payroll and keeping payroll records up to date
- Updating the cash flow forecast and payment schedule
- Preparing monthly intercompany journals where required
- Checking that intercompany loan accounts agree between the entities
- Keeping GST, PAYG and super liabilities easy to review
- Preparing Xero files so BAS and tax work can be reviewed properly
- Raising queries early when transactions are unclear
- Keeping notes on processes so the role is not dependent on one person’s memory
Requirements
- Strong Australian bookkeeping experience with at least 5+ years
- Experience working with more than one entity or related group
- Strong Xero experience, including bank reconciliations, bills, invoices, payroll and manual journals
- Ability to understand a profit and loss and balance sheet
- Good understanding of GST, BAS, PAYG withholding, STP and super
- Experience with inter-company journals, loan accounts and related-party transactions
- Confidence reconciling both sides of inter-company transactions so the balances match across Xero files
- Ability to maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Experience preparing payment batches for review and approval
- Comfortable using Excel or Google Sheets for reporting and cash flow tracking
- Clear communication with both the business owner and external accountant

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to:
- Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work
