Partnership
EQL Tech is partnering with Future of Cancer Care Today to appoint its next Chief Executive Officer.
About FCCT
Future of Cancer Care Today is an initiative incubated by the Sijbrandij Foundation, grown out of Sid Sijbrandij’s own cancer journey and the experience of the many patients and families the Foundation has worked with since.
There is more science available to cancer patients than any one care team can keep up with. New diagnostics, treatments, trials and suppliers keep emerging, and when standard of care runs out, patients are usually left to work out what else might be possible on their own.
FCCT helps cancer patients and their families connect the dots. A PhD-led team surfaces diagnostic and treatment options relevant to a patient’s case, including those beyond standard of care, and identifies vetted suppliers and providers who work beyond standard protocols. FCCT is not a medical provider: it does not diagnose, prescribe or direct treatment. It creates playbooks, curates resources and provides a non-clinical decision-support layer so families can walk into the next conversation with a fuller picture. Everything FCCT does is free to patients.
The role
FCCT is looking for a Chief Executive Officer to lead the initiative into its next phase. This is a builder’s job, not a caretaker’s. FCCT has proven that the model helps patients. The task now is to turn a small, high-touch service into something that reaches many more families without losing the rigour and compassion that make it work. The CEO will own FCCT’s strategy, team, standards and growth, reporting to the CEO of the Sijbrandij Foundation.
What you will do
- Set and own the strategy. Decide what FCCT should be in three years, and what it should not be.
- Lead and grow the team: a Director of Patient Connections and a growing Patient Navigation function, expected to grow materially over the next 12 months.
- Protect the quality of the work. Own the standards for how cases are researched, how resources are vetted and how materials are reviewed before they reach a patient.
- Hold the line on what FCCT is not. FCCT sits deliberately outside the clinical relationship, and you are the final judge of where that boundary falls.
- Scale beyond one-to-one. Extend the playbooks, resource directory and self-serve tools so families FCCT never speaks to directly still benefit.
- Build the external network across clinicians, researchers, diagnostics and therapeutics companies, patient advocacy organisations and peer foundations.
- Work in partnership with the Sijbrandij Foundation’s CEO on budget, impact, risk and need.
Requirements
What we are looking for
Essential:
- An advanced degree in a relevant scientific, medical or health discipline.
- The ability to read, interrogate and summarise primary oncology literature, and hold your own with practising oncologists and researchers.
- Demonstrated leadership of a team, with a track record of hiring well.
- Experience building something from an early stage into something larger.
- Judgement under ambiguity, where stakes are high and evidence incomplete.
- Exceptional communication, including translating complex science into language a frightened family can act on.
- Deep personal commitment to patients.
Strongly preferred:
- Direct experience in oncology, precision medicine, clinical research or patient navigation.
- Familiarity with the landscape beyond standard of care, including expanded access, Right to Try and trial pathways.
- Experience operating within or alongside a philanthropic funder.
- An existing network across oncology, research or patient advocacy.
First twelve months
- An agreed three-year strategy, signed off with the Foundation.
- The team fully staffed, with the open Patient Connections Manager and Associate roles closed and performing.
- Documented standards for case research, resource vetting and material review.
- A measurable increase in patients and families reached, with an agreed way of measuring whether FCCT changed their options.
- At least two substantive external partnerships that widen what FCCT can offer.
Benefits
